CINGULAR SERVICE GONE TO CRAP

I tell you guys, I am frustrated beyond belief. The Cingular service in the town of DeQuincy, LA (70633) has gone to complete and utter crap. I will have had Cingular service almost 5 years (come March 2007) and this is the worst service I have ever gotten. No one can still figure out what has happened except for the fact that a tower has been turned off or there are other problems.

First, one day I noticed the signal strength had fallen from a reliable 3-4 bars to 1 and sometimes none. There wasn't a part of town you couldn't get service. Now, one side of town, you're lucky if you can get even one bar.

Next thing I'm noticing is, there is a tower somewhere that locks on with 5 bars, but as soon as you make a phone call, it drops ...

I think it's funny that as soon as someone complains about Cingular service there's always a Vz fanboy or employee posting just minutes later stuff like that quoted above. This makes me wonder if those same vz fanboys or employees are the ones starting these threads.... 🙄

Then take your laziness to the next level and don't make the click into the Cingular forum.

When I worked at Cingular, I too got reports of a similar situation happening with a town in Northwest Arizona called Valle, it was a legacy blue tower that went down. The town MAYBE had about 1000 people in it, and it took them a month to even send someone to talk to me about it.

A guy came into my store with an old blue nokia 3200 that he said could not connect to the tower anymore. After doing some calls to tech support, I finally got to the bottom of the issue, and it turned out that a company called COMMNET (the tower is actually owned by QWEST now, go figure) bought out the tower after the ATT buyout. Something went haywire with the tower and it's roaming priviledges and no one in the town was able to get service.

Long story s...

That's odd, in MTi it shows that the tower in your zip code is fine, but the tower about 10 miles north (around the intersection of the 110 and 27) is down. I'd take Ash's advice and put in a ticket w/ Tech Support and then call your local COR location.

Would that tower affect me that far away? I know exactly where you are talking about. That tower is located in Singer, LA on the east side of Hwy 27 close to Hwy 110. I didn't realize you could pick up a tower that far away from you.

So it is showing only one tower in DeQuincy? Let me tell you of something else I noticed. You make a call with 5 bars, call goes through fine, it drops to 1 or 0 bars, and about a minujte later it goes back up to about 4 or 5 bars.

Verizon service in Calasieu parish is very spotty. I work for the Sheriffs office here and since I've had to the opportunity to drive most of the parish we've had some problems with our verizon air cards. Our laptops are linked back to the office but when we encounter dead zones the connection drops out. Why they went with verizon air cards knowing this from their experience with the verizon phones I don't know. That is why they dumped verizon as their cell phone provider and went with Nextel. It offered much better coverage in the parish. Cingular coverage is seamless. If they would just fix this problem here at home I would be happy.
