Dear XXXXX,

Does your cell phone take pictures, play music, and download market reports from the Internet - yet, you can't get it to complete a phone call?

And then, you can't get out of the plan because they lock you in with high early-termination fees - $150 to $200.

Join our "Hear Us Now!" campaign. Tell the cell phone industry to end the "gotchas" and improve the quality of your phone service.

Companies use high termination fees to keep you from taking your business elsewhere because many services will regularly drop your calls, no matter what their ads say. And you can expect to pay up to 30 percent more than the advertised price.

Consumer Reports this month provides some good tips for finding a better phone and a bette...

It's what he does.

Looks like Cingular already has all of those "requirements" they want except the prorated ETF, but at least we offer 2 yr, 1 yr, and no commitment contracts.

Will the consumer union also include that the consumers agree to pay retail costs for their handsets to avoid the hefty termination fees just like the rest of the world does?

Not to douse your left wing consumer movement flame, but....
I offer service with 2 carriers. Both of which already have in place exactly what you propose.
Both Sprint and Cingular have detailed coverage maps that show anticipated coverage down to the address level. T-Mobile has the same thing available. VERIZON DOES NOT

As for automatic contract extensions without disclosure, It is actually illegal to do so. To require a contract extension for a price plan change, maybe I see the point.

A 30 day satisfaction guarantee, Sprint and Cingular both have it. VERIZON and T-Mobile do not.

Realistic 1st bill printout, every carrier offers that.

No, low or prorated ETF, Why? So you can take the phone the carrier discounted with you and...

Why were they chosen when they are the least compliant?

I think it goes beyond that. Why recommend a carrier in almost every market in America when you know they are the least compliant with the things you feel are important? Either CR does not research the industry or they have a bias. There can be no other reason. Why do their findings differ from Telephia or JD Power?

If Cingular or Sprint customers do not have an understanding of their coverage, first month bill or price plan then it is either the fault of the salesperson who sold the phone or the fault of the consumer themself. So many times I have tried to get a customer to look at coverage or the css and they didn't have time for that. I try to disclose the things that affect them and they refuse to let me help them make an informed ch...
