Long time ATT/Cing Customer with contract up..

Having weathered the stormy mess that was the Cingular take over of ATT Wireless, my 2 year contract is now finally up. ATT had been a gem for customer service, and Cingular has been a convoluted mess to deal with on the phone.

I'm one of those customers that has a great rate plan from ATT that will now be charged almost 40$ more for a similar plan with Cingular. Aren't prices supposed to be going down for cell services?

With my contract now up, what have any of your experiences been getting better pricing on contracts, getting 1 year contracts, or getting Cingular to pricematch places like Amazon/LetsTalk for new phones..?

Will they bend over backwards to retain people as a customer? (as a customer of theirs for almost 8 y...

From the tone of your post I believe you will be sorely disappointed with the offerings. They are not bad at all, but Cingular will not give away the farm to retain a customer. They will make a fair offering and even let you choose a one or two year agreement to get a phone discount. No one will price match Let's Talk / Amazon because they do not offer those prices for upgrades (technically there is nothing to price match).

well, up until recently T-Mobile stores were matching Amazon's prices, which was why I had asked.

I just wasn't certain how far they will go to retain customers when you tell them you are thinking of canceling.. (like aoHell used to be).

Looks like I'll just have to get on the phone with a rep and see what they can offer.. and then tell them that I can get a cheaper price for the same minutes plans through T-Mobile and see if they budge.

thanks,
Adam

The problem is that Cingular is not willing to drop their shorts to match T-Mobile when in so many areas of the country we simply have superior coverage. I haven't seen a trend of them going off the books to offer rate incentives when frankly they don't need them. They have been mailing offers to former ATTWS customer to migrate but it has been so long you might have missed the boat on that one.

I have seen plenty of people with 200 bonus minutes added to accounts in an attempt to match t-mobile pricing. These were not minutes added via VIP for upgrades.

Oh well, I have not see a single one. Maybe it is because T-Mobile is horrible in this market, but they don't price match Alltel (formerly Western Wireless) either and they had some crazy local rates.

I am also a Cingular Blue customer as they call us. I have the 1000 min/free night & weekends National Plan & shared minutes for $49.95 per month. There is no way I would switch. And I have 4 daughers and 3 grandchildren on Cingular, can't give up that free time calling either. No one has even come close to such a good deal. I'll stick with my old phone and poor service from my home. I have to go outside on the patio is order to make or receive a call. I have heard that the old AT&T customers don't get to use the Cingular towers? Either way I'm sticking with my plan for as long as I can. I also saw from another post in the General section that after Jan 1, 2007 Cingular will be changing it's name back to AT&T. And hopefully the ser...

If any Cingular people read this do you know where it's posted about the name change and any other info about what other things will be happening when Cingular goes back to AT&T.....Thanks

nothing will change but the name. possibly some deals on phones or what not as an initial "celebration", but every indication is it will be business as usual.

Letstalk does in fact have contract extension/renew offers.. that at least as inexpensive as Cingy new cust offerings.. But you can read in this forum the "horrors" of using anyone other than a cingular corp store or an authorized brick and mortar reseller.. 🙄

Why would you buy online to get the same price as going into a store?

As we speak I am helping a woman who BOUGHT ONLINE resolve her issues. Nothing works, getting ready to go out of town, all for $40 savings. Per her statement she has spent 3 hours so far trting to fix this, let alone the stress of having to be on the road to travel for the holidays.

Yup. She even told me how much she saved ($30 each phone) and flat out said $60 was not worth the time and hassle.

The funny thing is she didn't even have a problem sale, she just was the type that would like someone to personally help her with phone setup, memory exchange, etc. She is also the type that has difficulty pulling everything out of the box, putting everything together, calling on for t&c. She said she thought everything would arriving working and ready to go.

Just think how frustrated she would be if she actually had any issues.

She may be the wrong demo for buying online. if she cannot set up a cell phone she probably uses AOL or refers to google as her friend. anyone can give you anecdotal evidence .. Three people in my office used lets talk, got thier phones for free, and free bluetooth headsets with nary an issue.. and one of them even used Letstalk after Cingy refused to do ANYTHING to retain him as he was an ATT customer of a number of years and was finished his contract.. and this was a guy who spent upwards of 150 a month on his three lines.( he only reupped with Cingular because he refuses to deal with VZW). They all got better deals than Cingular was offering and none had any issues whatsoever. They got the plan they wanted and the phones they wanted...

I am yet to find a customer who bought from national retail or online that was not sold or missold on something that they obviously needed after 5 minutes of asking basic questions. Many are likely in my stores because they were not properly taken care of in the first place but just as many are here because they wanted to pay a bill, had a bill question, etc. and were directed to me. No potential issues but items were missed. Every market has unique challenges. Someone with experience with help customers with a purchase but even if they think they know everything about the phone that rep could help them avoid a future pitfall.

Like I have said many time, phone purchase is the smallest portion of a very large investment. I just don't ...

Cingular is NOT going to match Let's Talk or Amazon's pricing. Make sure you read the fine print if you're ordering phones off those sites. you usually have to keep service for like 6 months, then send in multiple rebate forms. It's a big old mess to deal with. Go to a corporate store or call customer care. They will be willing to work with you to keep your business. As far as the plan, you're out of luck. We can't just wave a magic wand and whip up some special rate plan just for you...

P.S. Reps don't make any commission off of one year contracts, so if it were me, i would not be willing to go out of my way... sorry ☚ī¸

great attitude.

Adamt, if you want to be treated like your business is valued port to Verizon Wireless. you will get a better network, better customer service, and you will NEVER lose your calling plan.

we have people on old local unlimited calling plans for 20$ a month using 5k+ minutes a month and they get to keep their plan even tho VZW loses money every month.

Great attitude there too buddy! I see you are a VZW rep there too. Do you tell that to all your customers who don't like your crappy and crippled phones? 🙄
BTW, are you going to be able to honor whatever calling plan he has now with ATT? I don't think so!

I currently pay around 77$ a month for the plan I had with ATT that carried over into Cingular.

To have the same features and the same call time I CURRENTLY HAVE I will be paying over 110$ with the current Cingular contracts.

I'm not asking for them to part the red sea for me.. but aren't rate plans supposed to be getting cheaper over time..? I would at least hope they could match the contract I ALREADY HAVE WITH THEIR COMPANY.

Cingular's customer service has been horrendous until the last month or so when I started asking them about what date exactly my contract was up and what I would need to do to cancel my service. Only then did they even begin to try and work with me.

Verizon is a no go for me.. I have my own GSM phone ...

But for your argument to hold any merit, your former rate plan would have to have not been a promotion.

Look carefully at how your rate plan is structured. A rate plan of 400 minutes for $40 plus 600 bonus minutes is not the same thing as a rate plan of 1000 minutes for $40.

I've gotta point out that the contract you signed initially wasn't with this company. Cingular has never offered the plan you're on. You've been a customer of theirs for about two years now, and if your plan is that much lower you're probably costing the company more than what you're paying.

Cingular does have rentention offers on rate plans, but those are on the low end (the old $29.99 250 minute plans). They won't offer and wont match any ATT offerings.

The rate plans are not really negotiable. They're a set amount of minutes for a set number of dollars. We just click which plan to put you on, not type in what you're going to get.

I do suggest looking up any company discounts. Many companies have arrangements worked out wi...

Here is the issue that has and will continue to come up with former At&t customers, these customers expect cingular to honor what is in the agreement, which is fine there is nothing wrong with that, but they can't or won't comprehend that the way the market is structured that cingular is under no obligation to give them better rates and more discounts. Cingular is not going to give you a new phone at discount and then give you , the same rate plan from At&t. Cingular is going to say here is a new phone and here is a new plan. Effectively cingular saying fine, keep your rate plan, keep your phone, but when its time to upgrade to something new you are not getting the same plan, because in an attempt to bring you inline with market prices we a...
