Cingular data options question

Hi,
I am at a point of considering switching from VZW to Cingular in order to get a better phone. However, I don't understand Cingular's data plans.
WIth VZ I can use WAP2 to surf the web using my free minutes on the weekends and during the evening. This plan costs me $5 per month. Can I do this with Cingular or am I limited to 5mb, or getting the $19 unlimited plan. I don't know if the unlimited plan is necessary for the phone I am considering, the Sony E. 810.
I don't care for VZ phone selection, but I would hate to lose a feature that I kind of like.

If you are using minutes, I am presuming you are having to dial a number, meaning that your surfing is extremely slow. Would I be correct in that presumption?

No, there is no number. VZ has their own WAP2 browser that is part of the phone. I just hit the internet button on my phone and it goes to the evdo browser

Well in that case, I would probably have to say Cingular doesnt have anything like that, where it only uses your minutes. Cingular will charge to use data.

Yea, but make sure you download opera mini to your phone, it'll give you full web access. Don't forget to get the unl data (19.99) plan.

With the W810i you won't need opera mini. The 810 has a full HTML browser already.

It isnt nearly as good a mini opera. No built in web browser I've used is as good as mini opera..

we have a 1 mb plan also.

cingular charges data seperately. i think this is better. as its hard to tell how many minutes you are using when surfing the web on vzw's web 2.0. and the fact that they make you pay 5.00 to pay per use sucks too.

It's not really difficult to know how many minutes you have used for data, the phone has a way to tell you that quite easily. Anyway, it's not an issue if you are using free minutes.

How much time is spent using 1 mb of data?

i know its not hard when using n&w minutes but its a pain to have to wait until n&w's to use the data. when i was sellin vzw this was the hardest feature to sell a customer on.

yea sir you can pay 5 bucks to access data and use your minutes for it. 🙄

v-cast was easier and we dont even have it in our area.

1 mb of data is about 200 pages of media net, 8-10 ringtone downloads, or about 100 - 140 emails via media net.

I have the 810 and their media works(5mb of data). I surf alot and download every now and then. It kinda depends on how much you download and how big the items you download are.

That's probably the phone I will get. Isn't surfing downloading? What if I surf an hour, how many mb is that? Does the phone keep count for you?

Using the opera minibrowser each page I look at is 6-56 kb. So it depends on how many pages you look at in an hour.
