What kind of plan should I get? Noob alert!

I'm going to sign up with Cingular soon and plan on using an unlocked Nokia E61, at least initially. I don't want an extended contract.

What's the best way to obtain Cingular service, given that I want to use an unlocked phone, some voice and some data - occassional email. Do I simply go into the store and ask for a prepaid SIM card with data access? Is that Media Net? Or do I have to buy one of their phones first for a SIM card?

Thanks for any info...

If you are looking for something with no contract, go with GoPhone. Postpay perks with Prepay service...

I wouldn't do prepaid, it will cost you entirely too much.

Since you have your own phone, you can do a one year contract. There will be an activation fee, but you can choose a rate plan, features, etc.

The E61 has Wi-Fi so you may not even need internet as much, depending on where you're using it.

If you do plan on using the internet, a lot, you should probably get Media Max.

Prepaid, even Go Phone, will not support data devices. Yes, you can use a data device, but you cannot get anything other than pay-per-use. Pick Your Plan does allow certain data packages, but they are ONLY for regular phones. Plus, prepaid would cost WAY TOO MUCH. I've said it before: in most instances, it is cheaper to pay a $500 deposit and possible $175 ETF and get postpaid service than to get prepaid service. Pay $80-100 a month on postpaid or make several $15+ refills a month. I've seen people make $200-300 in refills a month. That is crazy.

Anyway, I agree with mistercrinkles. You should just get a post paid plan with a PDA Max plan.

Can you translate this a bit, please? What is post paid service? Is that a go phone? And what is a PDA Max plan? I assume this is different than Media Net? Yes?

thanks...

Post paid would be, say, picking the $39.99 plan, for 450 minutes, plus rollover. Unlimited mobile to mobile, and 5000 nights and weekend minutes. In addition to that, getting a Media Max package, such as Media Max 200, for $19.99, with Unlimited internet, and 200 messages. Or, if you're going to message more than that, you should get the Media Max 1000, for $29.99, with 1000 messages and unlimited internet.
