Yeah, it seems to work really well all over the city. I haven't had any issues. Check this site out: http://onlinecare.cingular.com/coverageviewer /
it will show you pretty detailed coverage maps.
One thing though, as with any phone provider, cingular does not work in the subways.

Never had a problem on Manhattan. I moved from T Mobile to Cingular because Tmo reception in Brooklyn was horrible. Cingular in Brooklyn works fine.
