As a AT&T client, I got good service on my phones and good service when I called CS. Since Cingular acquired AT&T, my service SUCKS. I purchased a Treo650 which worked fine up to four months ago. The CS rep also states they are turning off the AT&T towers and thats why my service is getting worse. What???

My problem is, I paid for the phone $367, have a plan with 1650 Min/mo, 7:00PM nights and weekends, incoming text messages free, unlimited data. for $99/mo. They are asking me to switch to a plan that is $105/mo, 1300 mins., 9PM nights and no text messages. Oh wait. The new Treo 65o will cost me a l...

There are very few things in this world that I can think of that get less expensive over time. Cellular service is not one of them. You use a treo 650, which is most typically used by business professionals, which means you are aware that Cingular Wireless, indeed, any company, is not providing you service for their health or out of the goodness of their hearts. They are doing it to make money. And they're not making as much money as you would think. The last quarter Cingular had net profits of just over $500 million, with 57.3 million customers, that works out to about $9 profit per customer. That's not a whole lot. Cingular is constantly investing your dollars into network expansion and upgrades (47,000 towers is twice as many as Verizon, ...

As a former AT&T customer, Cingular is losing money by providing you service. I wouldn't be surprised if they start letting people who are out of contract go. You should be thankful that they are still providing you the same amount of minutes for the price you had.

That being sad, when Cingular first purchased AT&T, they had extra mail-in rebates for those higher end phones like the one you have. You could've switched over then and gotten a new Treo for about $50. You probably made up an excuse then, and now that opportunity has passed. If you want to switch over now you'll pay the same price as any other customer. No more "special deals."

I'd wait for the 8525 though, or another UMTS pda to come out. Since you need a new phone,...
