Cingular rips off there customer

stephen5688

Sep 6, 2006, 5:59 PM
Why does Cingular rip off there customers? My mother in law was going to get Cingulars service for the first time. They said the V3 would be 149.99 and it would be the phone and battery, battery door and come in a Cingular box. I told her to let me order it for her, I used Lets Talk.com I got her the V3 and it came in a MOTO box it came with phone, battery, battery door, USB cable, leather case and MOTO phone tools cd. and it was FREE thats right FREE not after rebate but total cost to her was ZERO and the phone is Cingular branded with Cingular software I know I have used Medi Net to download some ring tones for her and it has the Cingular start up and shut down.

Many, MANY 3rd party retailers offer phones cheaper on new activations than on upgrades. They also usually have their own addendums to the contracts for services to support that price difference. Cingular doesn't have anything to do with lets talk so it's up to the consumer to read all the details.

Also, if your phone came in a moto box it's probably not a cingular branded device. It may have the cingular software on it, but it would've come in a cingular box otherwise. It still has the manufacturers warranty as well, but that's something else that has to be placed on the consumers hands instead of in Cingulars.

I am not a first time buyer from them, Thats how I knew about them in the firts place. When I got Cingular two years ago for myself, I went through LetsTalk and never had a problem. Someone said you still pay Cingular for the service so we win, we is that what is all about? To win, means you beat someone. Is that what Cingular thinks. It beats is customer out of something. Since I do pay Cingular every month for my service I would think they would be the one to give me the best deal on a phone. 🙄

Stephen-
To me it is pretty obvious how lets talk gets away with such cheap pricing and we charge more in the store. To you it may not be.
#1- Where do you think Lets talk.com is based? do you think they have to pay retail pricing for rent? Or do they have a large building in an industrial district where rent is cheaper/ft. Do they have to feild customer service? Do they have to pay multiple employees a decent wage to sell their products and service their customers or just an order filler to read things off of a screen and send it in the mail? Do they offer in store warrantees on their phones and accessories? Do they have to pay for merchandising for each of their stores? It costs a lot more to have a retail outlet than an online distribut...

Because they plan on making a much larger profit by selling those items in the stores. And as a rep, a large portion of my commission is from selling accessories. If they included everything with the phone I would be looking for a new job. The other thing is that sometimes when you buy a phone directly from the manufacturer they include the accessories. 2nd party distributors don't ususally include the accessories at the providers request.

Of course it was free...

You got it from an agent, which will over you no support. Cingular has to charge something for the phones to support reps both in stores and through customer service. If you have a problem, you'll be calling Cingular and not the company you purchased it from, which lowers their cost because they don't have to deal with anything after they sell it.

I guarantee 100% if you come into a corp store, you'll be told to call customer service.

More on lets talk prices... They'll take a hit on the phones, because they make enough to cover the sale through commission. If you want to cancel early, you'll have two cancellation fees... the main one with Cingular and a secondary contract with Letstalk....

Important Information Regarding Your Equipment Discount

Your price paid includes an Equipment Discount of $250 that has been provided to you by this Cingular authorized agent for activating a new non-substitute line of service with Cingular, and maintaining this new line of service with the selected rate plan in good standing for a minimum of 181 consecutive days.

By accepting this Equipment Discount, you agree that for a period of 181 days after your new line of service is activated, you

* will pay your balance due to Cingular each month
* will not disconnect this Cingular line of service
* will not transfer this equipment to another Cingular line of service
* will not port an existing phone number from another C...

You found what I had just told him earlier. I've seen customers get F&^%* without compassion because they don't read those T&C's.
I love these:
"By accepting this Equipment Discount, you agree that for a period of 181 days after your new line of service is activated, you

* will pay your balance due to Cingular each month
* will not disconnect this Cingular line of service"

If customer lets their phone get suspended for non-payment (which happens very frequently) Because you can tell the type of customer who does this. The typical cheapo who wants the "best deal" cuz he or she can barely pay their bill. Anyway, when this happens and they get charged the full retail price of the "free" phone they storm to their local cingular store......

This is the big one for me.

* will not change your Cingular service rate plan to a lower monthly service rate

They usually require you to sign up on a higher plan than what you want. You get it thinking "Oh, I'll just switch my plan to a lower one when I get it." Cingular lets you do that, but these online retailers don't. You make any changes to the "deal" they set you up on, and there's that $250 charge again.

At least it goes on their credit card instead of on their bill.

That is because cingular offers the 30 days where you can cancel without paying a cancellation fee. I work for an agent, and we had times where customers would walk in and get the razr for 100 dollars. They would then go home and cancel thier account and sell the phone as a new phone on Ebay.

Agents, as well as letstalk.com(which I guess would be an agent), pay for all the phones themselves. They pay a substantial admount for these phones and Cingular reimburses them after 6 months of service has been completed. Im thinking thats the admount of time where they make enough money off the customer not to care.

That is the way I explain things to the customers, and every single one has no problem giving me an imprint of thier credit card...

And the agent doesnt see a penny of the ETF, they get screwed on the loss they take on the phone, hence the $250 contract with the customer.

First of all, let me tell you, which everyone else here already knows, you have no idea on how this business works. Zero.

Authorized Dealers, such as your LetsTalk.com, are not owned by corporate stores, and buy their products from the corporate warehouses to sell at their stores/online sites.

Authorized Dealers can sell the phones at any price they like, because they have already paid Cingular, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc. for it. Your Razr was "free" because Cingular pays LetsTalk.com for each activation they do. And believe me, the amount of money Cingular pays them covers the cost of the phone and still puts a pretty penny in LetsTalk.com's wallet.

So authorized dealers have to run these types of deals to attract customers away from ...

however i've learned my lesson from wirelfy. read their terms and conditions. because i had to stay with the same plan for 6 months, i signed a 2 year agreement with cingular and a 1 year agreement with them. so if i canceled which i did. i had to pay 2 etf's. it was horrible i had to take legal action against them to not pay the etf to them. there's more but just to much to type about while im at work.

Plus we have addition rebates on two of them that I can claim thru Letstalk after having the service 3 months...but even if I never receive that money it was all still FREE.
