Help with Cingular Seeing my phone as UMTS!!!!

Hi all,

I am new to cingular -- and just purchased a HTC Tytn - 3G PDA phone. This is being used by other Cingular users in my area (NYC) on the UMTS network without a probelm. My issue -- when I am home (non-UMTS) I ger GPRS connections without a problem. Once I get in the city -- the "U" pops up and I cannot connect for email, etc (only can use the phone).

When opened my account--I bought a free phone (Samsung PTT)....non UMTS and placed that SIM in the Tytn.


After speaking with various Cingular reps the issue is:
- Their System is not seeing the phone as a UTMS phone and will not allow it to access the 3G network.
- Other users who have the Tytn have "UMTS Compatible" noted as a feature on their account.

Chances are it won't work because you don;t have a 3G SIM card. You should probably be able to go down to a store and purchase one and it should work just fine afterwards.

make sure your imei numbe of your current 3g phone is in the cingular system i have read about this before on phonescoop
