Thinking of switching

I think that I am a soon to be ex-Verizon subscriber. I wanted to get a general idea from everyone about call quality/reception/service from Cingular. I borrowed my mothers phone (she has Cingular), and it get full reception in areas where I got no reception from Verizon. I live in the Boston area, but I often travel to Miami, Chicago, San Juan, and San Diego. So if I can get any input from people in the above areas, that would be a big help to me. Thanks a lot! πŸ™‚

Yeah, so moving right post the verizon nonsense because that wasn't his questions.

Cingular has the most rural coverage that i have experienced (yes, I have used both verizon and cingular and I sell both) phones I would say right now Cingular is pretty lacking but in the nest few months that should be fixed. Down side? the call in customer service is absolutely infuriating. I have never been more angry when I have to call them, and I am an agent. Now then. If you are looking for network it is better (IMHO) I would advise that you go that route and take the roll with the customer care. As one of my customers I would tell you if you have to deal with them to come to me first and have me fight with them. Otherwise I wish you the best luck an...

i honestly dont see how so many people have problems with cingular custoemr service, im an agent as well and call them several times a day and have no problem most of the time, about 95% of the time we get whatever problem accomplished first call, cingular decreased incoming calls to call centers by 30% in recent times so its getting better and will cont' to improve(hopefully)

im both a customer and an agent.

i have had to call cingy twice. first they billed me twice for PDA data. took 4 min from the time i hit send to get a credit.

second time i bought an aircard and dint like it. but they didnt get the return for like 38 days. (my fault) not only did they credit me the equipment but i also got the actvation fee and both months service credited. all told i got about 350-400 bucks worth of credit. total time spent 10 min.

so far i love the customer service and the areas you listed will be fine for coverage. remember when you look at cingys coverage map that is full bar service. verizon map is i got one bar lets put it on the map

the only difference between verizon having 1 bar and cingy having 1 bar is that verizon can make a call with just one bar, and not a crappy static call like cingy, a crisp clear call, and yes i have both im not bashing

Well I can make a call with one bar and have repeatedly made calls with no bars. I have had Verizon and Cingy but chose to keep Cingy. They are pretty much on equal footing where I am from (Houston, TX). The main difference is rollover and VZ has some phones that can use AMPS. As far as Matrix about phones, Cingy will be getting the KRZR and the SE W810 can more than hold its own against the Chocolate.

You Cingy freaks are just talking about the Chocolate, there's more to it. The KRAZRkm1 is also coming to Verizon and there's more too.

first of all i am not a "cingy freak" i prefer verizon yes, my job gives me a cingular phone, and im just saying LG's are usually feature loaded pieces of ****, because if you live in a huge metro area theyll be fine, but if youlive in a rural suburban area like me they suck, the only way to go is with some sort of antenna preferably extendable because they ALWAYS get better reception, and the new motos should work great beacus of moto's venerable reputation with rf, so you need to come off of the chocolate phone because its going to suck i dont see why v...

thats because Verizon uses CDMA and CDMA can tolerate weak signals and GSM cant because of incresed Bit Error Rate, has nothing to do w/ carrier.

it obviously has somehting to do with the carrier, due to the fact that is the technology they chose to use 😲

Don’t switch!! It will impact voice and data ARPU, churn and total net adds.

Just be sure you live where there is full Cingy coverage. Otherwise they'll charge you activation fee's, phone cost, all to dump you within 3 months. In short, go with whatever works, but be sure you're in a Cingy area so most of your calls are on Cingular towers. Otherwise we'll be seein' ya on the VZW side...

Call quality is good, xcept for its occasional and i mean occasional hiccups, signal reception is great in my area(metro detroit), it might not be the same for others, reception is relative to terrain, most carriers have a trial period, so you should take advantage of that, cingular has a 30 day trial, the customer service i had was great, they helped me and did their job well and did not give me any fuss, again that depends, overall im am very satisfied with Cingular,

Since you live in boston, you have 3G coverage, which means you can get a 3g phone(LG CU500 looks really nice)Plus Chicago has 3G, San Diego,
San Juan and Miami dont have 3G coverage yet but they will by the end of this year if not, early next year

Thanks for both of your inputs. I was thinking about taking advantage of that 30-day trial. So far so good, I don't think I ever had to call customer service for any of phones that I had (and I had Cellular One, At&T, Sprint, Nextel, and Verizon). Hopefully if and when I do get Cingular, I will have the same luck. But I will definitely keep viojay in mind if I have to. I have looked into that 3G LG phone that was just released and read the reviews. People have mentioned about the "hiccups" when switching from a 2G to a 3G network, as well as few nagging features. I also like the Motorola RIZR, so I might wait for more info on that.

As for the Verizon guy, I did have a good experience with them initially. But over the past several ...

Try Cingular, but also try a modern VZW phone, and not the 2-yr old one you have now.

Wait for the nokia 6126 and get it. I don't know if every 3g market is the same but none of the phones that we carry including the cu500 perform as well as a non 3g phone. The data speed and cingular video are amazing but the RF reliability is not nearly as consistent as more tested phones. The edge speeds are usually good enough unless you are dead set on cingular video or teathering. Motorola seems to also be the pioneer for new technology especially with their "slim" line of phones but other manufactures tend to perfect the technologies a little better. We always seem to have many more complaints about the motorola products when compared to nokia and samsung. LG tend to have similar problems as the motorola's. The nokia 6126 coming out is...

I was wondering if the 3G upgrade was mainly for data transfer than call quality. I was thinking of purchasing the LG cu500 because it was the "latest", or waiting for the Motorola V3xx/MAXX. If thats the case, I might just wait and get the Nokia 6126.
