Wait till the N80 comes out then there will be vid conferencing, right now its just fast data transfers. Like download music and vids on demand and ****.

NYC just went live, they are building out (to other major cities like philly and boston) After those cities are "linked", they will begin building out the medium size cities. After that, they will begin filling in the "holes".

NYC is done, (building to philly along I-95 & 295)
Philly is scheduled for August 06.
They will then build to wash dc/balt area.

After that's connected they're going to hit Atlantic city and then build towards philly to connect all of souther jersey (my area).

I'm not sure of other areas, but I got to take a peek at the rollout schedule for my area ๐Ÿ™‚

NYC is live as we speak. Soft launch was wednesday June 7. It will officially launch at the end of the month I am told. In addidtion if you punch in NYC zipcodes on cingular.com, you now get the UMTS phone available, whereas before it would give you the 'not available in your area' message. I live in NYC, far West Village in zip 10014. I've been waiting FOREVER for this, now just bring me a GOOD phone. I spoke with a dealer on Monday who agve me the info.

3G

3G Stands for 3rd-generation. Analog cellular phones were the first generation. Digital phones marked the second generation (2G).

3G is loosely defined, but generally includes high data speeds, always-on data access, and greater voice capacity.

The high data speeds are possibly the most prominent feature, and certainly the most hyped. They enable such advanced features as live, streaming video.

There are several different 3G technology standards. The most prevalent is UMTS, which is based on WCDMA. (WCDMA and UMTS are often used interchangeably.) UMTS is the 3G technology of choice for most GSM carriers.

The other major standard is cdma2000, which is an evolution of CDMA 2G technology. There are several types of cdm...

If you are in NYC you might want to consider a 3G phone. NYC has just released 3G, so those phone are available there. Well, you said that you are not a data user so this may not mean a lot to you.
Damn! I wish i had 3G where I live!

3g is a higher bandwith technology. this will allow for the new HBO thing there doing as well as higher download speeds if you use a laptop card. the technology is similar to verizon and sprints hight speed technology. They have a cdma network and cingular is on a GSM network both achive the higher speeds diffrently.
