I've been reading posts on here fron Cingular reps talking about going back to AT&T. I've been researching carriers and phones and have decided to go with Cingular. All this talk is now making me wonder if this is even a good time to buy a Cingular plan and phone. Am I right or am I wrong?

if u want to switch to cingular wireless go ahead, the name change is only because AT&T name is more well known and well recoconized by people and trusted. The changing of the name wont change anything within Cingular.

Yeah dont listen to the reps that worry about it. A lot of orange reps were afraid they would have to learn our blue systems when they change the name, and that all of a sudden everything would back shift back to attws.
That would make as much sense as sony cranking out super nintendo games if they purchased Nintendo today.
Truth is, cingular/SBC are not as well known as AT&T so sticking the at&t name on everything but leaving the internals the same is just a smart business move.

You think too much!

What earthly difference does it make what they call the company?

It doesn't speak to the stability of the situation. If everything is going to be alright and nothing is going to change but the name, then why does there seem to be so much concern from so many of the reps? (refer to the "Cingular to AT&T...I smell a backlash comin" thread) I'm not thinking too much,I just like to buy sure things. Before I invest my money in something I like to research the product. I won't buy a pig in a poke. Just asking, not thinking.

Ok - Let's do it again...

Cingular is a partnership of SBC, Formally Ameritech, Pacific Bell, Southwestern Bell, CNET, and many more) and Bell South.

Cingular bought AT&T Wireless (AWE). AWE had no relation with AT&T Corp (T) other then a naming agreement.

SBC bought AT&T Corp (T) and changed its name to AT&T Inc. and kept the T stock symbol.

AT&T/SBC is buying Bell South, the 40% partner of Cingular Wireless. So, Because AT&T/SBC is buying Bell South and changing the name of the landine company to AT&T, they are also changing the name of the wireless company to AT&T. Much like what Verizon has done.

Same company and only 1 owner now.

hope that helps...

there's is acctually no difference from the name. the coverage that cingular has now will still be the same even if it goes back to AT&T. so i suggest that if you really want to get services with cingular.....go ahead it will be no different.

That's too bad because Cingular sucks worse than sour lemons. Good Luck with the most dropped calls in the nation.

If company stability is your main concern, then you should be happy everything is going to be under one name, one brand, one company. As far as cingulars network sucking, please dont listen to everyone. Any educated rep or customer should know that it depends on where you live! It's that way with any wireless carrier because none of them can guarantee coverage everywhere. 🙄

Actually anytime wouldn't be a good time to buy a Cingular plan or phone regardless of the swith to att&t. Fortunately for you, Cingular's incompetence regarding name changing, is giving you the opportunity to question your decision and go with someone else.

Hope this helps.

Thank you,

Everything will stay the same as it is now, just the name change. Though, this will create a problem for the people who did not migrate and are still AT&T. Still trying to think of a good way to explain to AT&T customers how they have to switch to AT&T.
