The GSM technology, which is superior to what Verizon uses, autmatically updates that info to the phone.

Because of what was just said.

You don't need to dial an update number.
The sim card allows seamless transition from phone to phone while keeping contact lists and text messages.
We can go on the internet, make a phone call, AND send/recieve text messages all at the same time.
HSDPA upgrades will allow us much faster data transfer than any upgrade (to date) to EV-DO.

Agreed

Well that's the repsonsibility of the customer, if they buy the phone and call in with the IMEI right on, if they don't then that would be on the customer.Same as they used a unlocked device, thats something seperate then the tech.

The IRDB can be updated manually at a retail store or through CS.

I have Cingular and Verizon both right now, my Verizon phone works good in Indiana but not so good in Kentucky, my Cingular phone dose not work so good in Indiana but work good in Kentucky. both services are good you just have to look and see which one will fit you best for the area u live in. Cingular told me to make sure that I turn my phone off once a day for like 20 or 30 min so that it gets all the updates.
