Cingular's Service is terrible

I decided to get the Moto SLVR. This phone was meant to be used only when I travelled out of country.

While in the states I decided to use it more often since I had so many minutes going to waste.

Let me tell you. Cingular's service is absolutely horendous. I cannot even believe the amount of dropped calls. I mean I go from having a crystal clear conversations with 5 bars to absolutely nothing and a dropped call.

Being honest I cannot have one decent conversation for more than 15 minutes without a dropped call. I live in the Boston area as well which makes me believe if Cingular's service is this bad in a major city I can only imagine how bad it is in small cities and towns.

Luckily I still have my verizon phone which I now use ...

I'd have to say it's most likely your phone.

Motorola has a tendency to give you a phone that will show full signal, then all of a sudden, BAM!, where did your call go?

I agree with you. I have T-Mobile and I used the Moto V 300, I loved the phone, but I never had signal. Well I switched to the Nokia 3220, and the signal is solid now. No dropped calls ever!

Yeah...GSM has it's ups and downs...just like CDMA...but the EU forbid any other technology other than GSM. So to say that it is superior just because more people use it is just dumb.

Cingular has ranked dead last four years running; Consumer Reports reported wide spread static problems. It works that way everywhere. Cingular is ranked at the bottom because they deserve to be there. You learned the hard way, do your homework next time save yourself the grief.

Consumer Reports is far from objective in these areas. For example Verizon was not rated as the best network in Chicago by JD Powers, U.S. Cellular was. Did CU bother with checking out USCC? Why don't they go to rural markets to see the differences? They appear to check something out once and then roll that recommendation for years.

I will give you the drop call issue, in my local market we have a problem with that, but I have to take into effect the amount of users, that have added to the strain on our network, migrations of poeple from New Orleans to this area of louisiana, and the fact we have not had intergration, and we do not have a switch, which in all fairness is being built right now, and after that network integration. However I will say that A Razr or SLVR dropping calls does not surprise me, Razr's and SlVR are known for dropping calls, I see it everyday, something abou the way motorola makes those phone, I have been in areas with a slvr that nobody elses call drops , but mine did. and these areas where in gold network markets IE: Salt Lake City. So yes i...

I happen to be a Sprint afficianado so don't hold that against me. I, also, happen to be a proponent of GSM as a technology. Which poses an interesting dichotomy.

"For those of you who disagree with me and have great service with Cingular I truly am happy for you. GSM is a great cell phone technology but it is NO WHERE no Verizons CDMA US network. Maybe someday it will be and maybe Cingular has more towers but that does not matter. CDMA towers put out much more signal strength than GSM towers."

Comments like that above come from frustration. Not much research going into that one especially when its one person using one phone from one provider and a possibly flawed phone (be it design or defect) from another.

Suggestion: SLV...

Is it possible the SLVR has the same bug as the RAZR did when it first came out? I bought my RAZR around 12/1/2004 and after using it for a few months, I had lots of problems with dropped calls. And, after a while, I even realized that it was calls over a certain length. I then called tech support and they advised me of a bulletin from Motorola that there is/was a known software bug/defect where the phone would drop calls after it was left on for more than a couple of days. The workaround at that time was to simply power off and on the phone every day and that took care of the problem. I wonder if the SLVR has the same type of problem. To the orginal poster, I would recommend powering off the phone and back on every day and see if you ...
