Cingular Stores Question
I've decided to switch to Cingular, away from Sprint and have a question. I'm currently working away from home (work in Madison WI, live in Atlanta GA) and I won't be back home for two weeks. If I want to purchase a Cingular plan and phones at a Cingular store here in Madison, can I? WIll they activate my phones with Atlanta phone numbers?

Either the website or Telesales might be able to handle that.
Cingular stores only have access to area codes in their region, so a Wisconsin store would have no access to Atlanta numbers.

telesales can not do it either because to get an atlanta number u need an atlanta download. And for an atlanta download to work u need to be in atlanta.

he is right. in order for the atlanta number to work it will have to be activated in your home area (which in your case would be atlanta). this applies to all activations with GSM phones

wouldn't he just be able to contact the atlanta call center and have them select a rate center corresponding to the area code and # he wants?

Even if he did, there would be issues with the OTA and IRDB transfers, I would think. Different markets = different push.
