my brother is moving there, and he has Cingular, which as of now does not cover that area too well, anyone know if there is any plan to add towers there?

or if AT&T is good there? (and it will improve with the merger)

anyone have a map of the area, the zip is 10952

Thanks a lot!

Mendel,

According to my MTi map tool, the coverage is medium to high on GSM service. Your brother should not have any major trouble. ON Interstate 287 and 87 and the surrounding area (50 miles) he will be solid. Remember, GSM service is only getting better with time.

Solid medium-strength signal. Stripe of "Low" to the west, blob of "High" to the east. Couple of minor holes in town, but nothing within a mile or two of the house.

I would not expect any service problems near this address, no matter which phone he chose. (Well, which GSM phone -- there is no TDMA service there.)

That woulds make sense only if your father has a TDMA phone, or is not a Cingular customer.

If we use our own towers, then it is Cingular.
If we use other towers, then is is Cingular Extend.

I would guess 850, as most of the East Coast is 850, but a local rep would know better than I.
