My letter to Kathy Dowling and Stan Sigman

blueboy

Jan 26, 2006, 5:22 AM
Mz. Dowling,
1/26/06

I write to you as a matter of last resort concerning my problems
with Cingular Wireless over the last several months. During this time
I have suffered equipment malfunction, poor customer service and
technical support, and chronic network failure.
At this very moment, I am on hold with the after-hours help desk
because my multi-media messaging is not working. Whenever I attempt
to send a message, an error message results, or my phone tells me the
message will be resent at a later time. Such is typical of the
network troubles I've had with Cingular, and if I ever manage to speak
with a supervisor (I've been waiting on hold for a total of 12
minutes, after a supervisor...

First off, I would like to say I'm sorry about your poor experiences with Cingular as that has not been my experience at all. I have had great service throughout my time with the company (and, no, I don't work for them).

However, I can tell you that, in my opinion, your letter should never be taken seriously because you don't give the company an oppurtunity to solve your problem through normal hours of the day. And also because you can't even get your greeting right. It should be Ms. Dowling -- not Mz. Dowling. 🙄

ok as i see this is a serious problem i am going to add a few comments for you.

first off... when you write to the "head of company" or anyone for that matter, you should never say "incopetant" no one deserves to hear that or be told they are. this is not adressing a problem or concern it is mearly venting and honestly making it sound like you are better than that person... which obviously isnt the case, when you call into customer service no one is "dumb" bascailly how u said it.. customer service reps are only trained basic technical skills.. many reps just learn more very quickly as other dont.. " that isnt there job though"
secondly... if you have a problem with ur phone it is vital u call in from a lanline phone, its like trying to ...

Call volume does not support the decison to extend cingular's customer service hours. cingular is answering about 95 percent of calls coming into the call centers on average daily. The numbers just don't indicate a change is needed in that area in cingular customer service. The customer care department is being completely overhauled in 06. But the hours will not be extended.

OK here's my question to blueboy: If you haven't been calling on a landline how can you be certain that the cell phone itself is not faulty? You pretty much need to be able to shut off phones and hard reset and do all that sort of thing to be sure that all the bases have been covered, I thought. And no, you shouldn't have a landline installed expressly for trouble shooting your cell service, but you should have access to a landline because it is a more reliable method of communication than cell phones are.

Actually, Marcus, I was told by the rep servicing my account that it was my responsibility to drive to the nearest Cingular store and request a new SIM. If I nneeded a new SIM, it would be at the store manager's discretion as to whether or not I'd be charged for the card as the rep could only recommend I not be charged.

As for testing, etc. I agree with you wholeheartedly. However, when such testing is done by a team of incompetents, such is not the case. I'm also discouraged by the fact that Cingular knew of the flaws common to certain Nokia 6682s and pretended not to (or at least did not properly disseminate such information to their reps.), but instead insisted on "testing and troubleshooting" when it was known that such measures off...

All these comments are a typical of the mindset of cingular. Never mind that you have a problem using the services you are PAYING cingular for, but shame on you for wanting a resolution for something that should work flawlessly out of the box, but double shame on you for expecting it to be done out side of normal business hours when evidentially should apply to anybody and every body because after all, cingular for now is the largest wireless carrier in the u.s. and there just cant be anybody that would need assistance after 7 pm.

no love after 7 in texas. yeah, his tone may be a lil harsh, but hey, he is paying for a service, cingular's collectors are pretty harsh if you dont pay your bill. trust me I know all about this attitude. as a former employee, when I tried to get my commision straightened out (about 2 grand short) my bosses boss talked for 40 minutes and all he really said was dont worry about your money right now, and this was after giving 6 months to fix it in the first place. so to get him to understand my point I asked him how he would feel if I said I was going to be atleast 15 minutes late every day for the next six months but I dont want you to worry about that right now as eventually I will start showing up on time.

If I were in customer care, I'd have to take off my headset and laugh with my co-workers after recieving a call at 3 in the morning regarding your MMS. Are you kidding me? Is the picture you're attempting to send really a life or death situation that must be resolved at all hours of the night?

Quit being so damn impatient, and instead, take your lazy ass to a retail store during decent business hours and have a rep call in the problem for you. No, we don't want to hear you whine about your misfortune either, but at least when we talk to customer care, things get done, because we have a landline phone at our disposal (unlike our less "fortunate" customers..) 🙂

Sorry 'bout your trouble! heh.

Dear Blueboy,

I am sorry that you have a rough time with your wireless services. However I would reccomend that even though you carry a cell phone that you have a landline as well. I know that you don't want to install a landline, but the landline is the most reliable phone service to date. Wireless phones are merely a convenience, not a need.

All wireless companies ask that you call them using a landline in order to fix a problem on your cell phone because they have to be able to send radio signals to your phone to assess and repair the problem.

Landlines are very affordable, and if your phone breaks, you won't be without telephone service.

Best of luck to you, and if you decide to switch carriers, come to T-Mobile.

Sincer...

Thanks for the kind invitation, lefteyeiu. I would consider T-mobile if they were to offer better coverage service. I travel often, and spoty coverage would not sit well with me.

As for cell phone service being a convienence as opposed to a need, I think that could be said of the state of affairs 3 or 4 years ago, but now busy professionals truly need wireless communication to stay informed, available and competitive. Have you ever been staying at a hotel and had to call Cingular on the hotel phone for "service" to your wireless phone (which almost always involve routine procedures that don't address the specific cause of one's problem).? It's expensive! And so is having a landline installed in one's home-soley to provide his wireless...

I only reccomend T-Mobile if you live and travel in large populated areas. T-Mobile concentrates thier coverage in areas most heavily populated, such as large cities.

T-Mobile's coverage has grown a lot since I first signed on with them in 2003.

Check out T-Mobile's website and they will provide you with a wonderful coverage map where you can even look up the coverage on your home street! (and it will tell you how strong or weak the signal is projected to be!)

Neat, huh?

OH! And you are right: travelling business professionals NEED wireless phones, and actually to tell you the truth I think everyone should have one. I use mine mainly on the weekends, and I have it on me in case I need to make a call. I do a lot of messaging...

personally I have never ever needed a cell phone. There are times when it would have been kind of nice to have one, but it has never been a need. All a cell phone is, is hassle, its a way for people to call you when you don't want to be bothered, an invitation for vast corporations to suck money out of your bank account, and an excuse to spend vast chunks of your life fixing disfunctional services that you never needed.

First off your letter is directed to stigman. I am not sure if he has a phonescoop account so your letter will probably not get a response from him. Im assuming you know that. Second you were complaining that you have to call from a landline so they can address issues on your phone. Either you want your phone fixed or not, pick one. When they try to help you dont complain about calling from a landline. I figured this would be common sense but maybe not (example), if you want someone to fix your car you have to leave it with them and find another means of transportation to get back to your car once fixed. You cant expect someone to check your engine while your driving around town in the same car. Thats a big DUH!!! It might also benefit you t...

I met someone who wanted a new phone, but didn't want to wait so he got a family plan and got the desired phone at a great discount.

PLUS you could use one number for business, and the other number for personal use!

This country has a lot of flaws, and is currently heading down a dangerous and scary path, but that is no excuse to say you hate our country. Not everyone in this country is corrupt, and not all politicians are corrupt liars. We need to find the decent people who really want to make this place better and put them in power so that America can truly become the land of the free.

If you truly do not like what is happening in America, use your voice to make, create, and inspire change, not to judge and condemn the whole country.

So it is safer to say "Most, Majority, etc"

THEY SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO USE THE PURCASE OF PHONES AS A VALIDATING REASON FOR WHY WE AS CONSUMERS HAVE TO SIGN A CONTRACT FOR 2 YEARS.
