Hi,
Our two year contract is up with Cingular and we are now on a month to month basis. We have a family talk plan with 3 lines -- we pay $39.99 for the first line and 9.99 each for the two additional lines. We all have Samsung S307 phones and the service in our home is terrible -- two of the phones are especially bad. We have to stand near a door or even go outside in order to use the phone and not have dropped calls.

We would prefer to remain with our existing plan and not enter into a contract, since we are happy with the current rate and amount of shared minutes we have. We are eligible for phone upgrades, but if we don't sign a new contract, do we have to pay full price on the phones? Does anyone have any suggestions other th...

Yes, you would be able to buy phones on Ebay and then just switch the sim cards. However, you must make sure that it has the 850Mhz AND 1900Mhz bands on the phone, if not your reception will be non existant. Also, the phone must be either Cingular Branded or Unlocked, if it's locked to a different carrier you are opening a completely different can of worms to make it work.

Also, The s307 was not notorious for not having the best reception. Phones in our area that are better in pulling reception are the Nokia's, Motorola's, and Sony Ericsson's. So, yes the two phones that you were looking at in my opinion would be great options. The RAZR we have seen great results from, lately though the Z520a's have been coming back with screen prob...

If you're only trouble is in the house you could look into a repeater. How well they work I don't know. I do know how much of a pain that is I had the same problem before I moved..

You can resign your agreement to get a discount on your new phones WITHOUT changing plans.

There is also a current plan available in many markets that is $49.99 for 2 lines and $9.99 for additonal, same as you have now.

Hey Cin06 I'm not sure what area you are in, but I am in the North Georgia Mountains and in our area the Nokia 6010 seems to get the best coverage. It doesn't have any bells or whistles but it does get great reception. It is currently being replaced by the Nokia 6030 which should get just as good of reception if not better.
I know at my location we keep loaner phones for customers to take home to test service. Maybe try a local agent in your area to see if they offer this. You would only be able to keep the phone for a day but maybe this way you could see if you get service with another phone or not.
Also if you sign a contract or not you will not have to change your rate plan. Thats a good plan (just doesn't have mobile to mobile) so do...

Thanks....Does anyone know if a 1 year contract is possible and does this significantly increase the cost of the phones?

I like the suggestion of a loaner phone for the day. I had no idea they would do that. Is this through a Cingular store? Also, is there a trial period with a new phone to see if I do get service in my home and other areas, and if not, is it possible to cancel out and go back to my old phone and my plan without a contract?

At this point, does it look like my best bet is with Cingular directly or somewhere like Best Buy?

I would avoid best buy if I were you.... great prices but they will lie through their teeth to get your sale. And in my experience thay aren't so nice to upgrading customers.

As far as one year contracts. It depends on the store you go to. The price difference between 1 and 2 year usually differs anywhere from 50 to 100 bucks.

There is a 30 day ancellation period, so if your not happy with the reception even after getting a new phone, you can return them and cancel with cingular should you wish to do so.

Loaner phones are not available in all areas. Thats not something that we have the liberty of doing at my location and as far as I know cingular corporate stores dont do it either. I would pull out the phone book and call some of yo...
