Anyway to get Cingular to STOP sending me a deposit bill?

I was just in the Verizon forum and got reminded of this little problem I have with Cingular.

About 2-3 years ago I was at the end of a credit cleanup and thus when I wanted to get Cingular service Cingular wanted a $400 deposit. I didn't get the service and went to Tmobile instead (they wanted $75). Cingular then started sending me a BILL EVERY MONTH for $400 - When I called and asked about it they said to ignore it unless I wanted service then I could just pay that bill and they will activate service. I begged and pleaded with them for months to STOP sending this bill...2-3 years later I STILL RECEIVE THIS BILL EVERY MONTH!

I guess they're just hoping I'll die and my heirs will pay this "bill" then get stuck with a cancellation fee ...

If you ask me, that is harrassment. I would threaten legal action.

Also, you may want to check your credit report. This may be showing on there as an outstanding overdue debt. If that is the case, you should get it removed as soon as possible as it WILL cause you problems down the road when you want to buy a car or a house.

How taking a copy of the bill and going to a store near you and asking them nicely to contact someone to get this invoicing issue resolved? You could also try calling 1-888-333-6651 or whatever phone number is on the invoice.
Nine times out of ten, they will give you a phone number to someone in their legal dept or credit resolution dept.
If you never actually activated a line with them, then you should not get this invoice and they should remove your number from their system easily.

To be honest I've just gotten into the habit of trashing anything that comes in from Cingular...I'll probably try again but being that they just tell me it's "for your convenience if you ever decide to activate service" I doubt they will stop it. I check my own credit once a month already, nothing on their from Cingular.

The funny thing is, at one point about 4 months ago I did activate Cingular service (it sucked in my area so I cancelled it) and I still got this notice along with my legitimate Cingular bill

Like I said before, I would threaten legal action. It is one thing for a business to contact the consumer/potential consumer to solicit business. It is a complete other thing for ...

Its not debt. He dosent owe anything. Just call customer service and tell them you need to cancel a tentative ban. Give them the account number referenced on the bill for $400.00
