Text Messaging and Data
Can someone tell me if Cingular uses their voice channels so that people can send text messages and use media net? There has been times out here in Louisiana where my phone will say "network busy" indicating that all the voice channels are taken. I try to send text messages or get on the internet with my phone and it will say sending failed or it just won't let me log onto the internet. Oh, and sometimes my phone will tell me "wrong internet account" when it won't let me log on. Whats up with that?

yes. GSM, GPRS and EDGE all use the same channels to transmit voice or data.. Hence why you cant use MediaNet and talk at the same time.

By the end of 2006 most major markets will be integrated and using UMTS/HSPDA 🙂

Could this still have anything to do with the hurricane damage? Or is Louisiana cell service fully online again?

I don't think it does. I had problems like this prior to the hurricane. I rode out Hurricane Rita and believe it or not, Cingular service worked all through the storm. Only time I couldn't send text messages was when I kept getting network busy messages.

But keep in mind that with all of the rescue workers and all of the contractors that are there to rebuild, there will probably be a capacity issue for a while.
