IF I get the w800i i should have decent coverage in most meropolitan cities but will have spotty coverage in smaller cities? My thoughts were i would have good coverage in metropolitan areas because 1.my mom has a old nokia 3390 phone an she gets 3-4 bars and 2.cingular and t-mobile share towers so i should have at least have t-mobile coverage in most metropolitan areas. is there anything else I should know beofore i buy this phone? I heard since i get a phone not covered by cingular a few applications might not work do u know what those are? Will I still be able to send and receive mms? Any other info I should know will greatly appreciated.

You will need to manually plug in the SMS gateway, MMS and MediaNet settings. Sony Ericsson has a tool available on their site with this info, you can also search around on the internet. Its very possible the voicemail indicator will not function properly, as it does not on unlocked AT&T gsm phones.

The w800i is only triband, leaving out the 850 band. Keep in mind that if you are in an area where Cingular does not have 1900Mhz service and only 850, you will be out of luck, regardless of whether or not T-Mobile is available. Roam on Hoam roaming rules will prevent you from accessing the T-Mobile network in those cases.
