READ MY LIPS: NO NAME CHANGE

Updated article on TUCW states:

Official Q&A information directly from Cingular concerning the USA Today article:

"Will Cingular be changing its name to AT&T Wireless?

No. Cingular has been, is, and will remain a national brand.

What has changed for Cingular?

AT&T's plans will not change the way we market or manage Cingular. Even today, when BellSouth and AT&T sell wireless services as part of a bundle of wired and wireless services, the customer receives a bill from BellSouth or AT&T - not from Cingular. Most importantly, if either BellSouth or AT&T purchases wireless services from Cingular and markets them under another name, the results still show up in our balance sheet and are beneficial to Cingular. Gross adds - by any n...

I'm not sure that the Cingular exec apparently quoted in the blog has any say in the matter. If SBC/at&t and BLS decide to change the name there is nothing the lowly Cingular execs can say or do since they are lowest on the chain of command -- SBC/at&t and BLS make the important decisions regarding the company. Perhaps the Cingular execs are miffed that SBC/at&t has decided to do this without having consulted them first as if that were even necessary.

Stan Sigman: Clarification of Today's USA Today Article

Dear Colleagues,

I would like to take this opportunity to decrease the potential distractions and add concrete information about on-going speculation and a story in today's USA Today that the new AT&T plans to market wireless services under a brand other than Cingular.

Stan Sigman
President and CEO

There are two important things that I want you to remember about what this means for Cingular. First, this isn't a surprise, and second, Cingular has been, is, and will remain a national brand.

We have more than 52 million customers. Our size, national presence, and brand are definite advantages. BellSouth and AT&T (formerly SBC) support marketing Cingular as a nationa...

it is proprietary becuase he said it is from the intranet so that means it is from the inside which means that you can not bring it to the outside.. (that is why you sign all kinds of agreements. ) if you are on the inside of any company you will notice it will say something like "confidential" or "dont distribute to public" or "for internal use only" etc.. thus; he is doing something illegal and could have his job terminated.

Unless it didn't say that.

Just because something is on a company intranet does not automatically make it proprietary. You said it yourself, it would be marked as such if it was indeed proproetary.

And there have already been 3 different stories on RCR stating Ed Whitacre's interview was regarding ATT reselling Cingular under the ATT name.

lol.. of course it would say it.. (that it was for internal use of something of that sort) none of us are employees. ("Dear Colleagues")... we arent..

it is Stan Sigman not ED, by the way. 🙂

everything from the intranet is basically proprietary or else they would make it public...

you and SF just dont understand the simple language in which i am speaking.

simple; i am talking about what the other guy posted on here, not about ED. thats a simple concept for both you and SF supposed to get.

i was talking what STAN was saying, not ED from the "letter" the other guy was putting on here.

As opposed to flaming the forum like you do? If he's trying to be the "hero", then you gotta be the cheesy villain. I'd say you rank up there with Mojo Jojo. Maybe the Penguin.

I'm not confused at all, nor naive like you apparently. When I referred to the "lowly Cingular execs" I was merely describing their relationship to the real big dogs at SBC/at&t and BellSouth who will continue to call the shots for Cingular regardless of whether the Cingular execs like it or not. I think both parent companies are growing more and more alarmed that the Cingular execs are letting things get out of hand in terms of the head to head competition with Verizon -- Verizon is handing our arses to us in every single category (net adds, arpu, etc).

It's been posted on CSP(internal) and on many news sites. Somewhere up there someone said the 'lowly cingular execs' don't have a say. I dissagree. Cingular is run like any other company and even though it's owned by att, and bellsouth, the cingular execs still maintain control of the company. They aren't simply puppets. I'm sure att, and bellsouth have a strong say in the matter, they don't totally control the company in that aspect.
