Very upsetting situation.

Justin Cingular

Nov 5, 2005, 7:52 PM
I have never had a problem that was not fixed with Cingular... until now. Recently I purchased a Nokia 6682. As plenty of you know it had many problems and was recalled. I called tonight to get it replaced with the same thing, or something similar and here is how the call went:

She first told me I was ineligible to get a replacement phone because insurance was added to my account 10/15, which is later than when I got the phone. I explained to her that I had insurance on the phone long before that time, but I had upgraded my insurance from the normal 3.99 to the 4.99. Then i told her that this was a defect within the phone and shouldn't matter if i had insurance or not. After we finally came to an understanding and i was about to get...

Call 1800-801-1101 and call cingular because nokia will make u mail them the phone and wait for them to mail it back 2 u. Tell them that u need a phone of equal value and the only thing that is equal is a PDA. I have the same problem with my nokia 6682 and they gave me a treo 650. I still like my nokia a little better easier to use.

What are these problems you talk about? As far as I know the phone was removed from shelves only cuz it rejected the 3G SIM card. I know for sure you guys don't have 3G SIMs. What problems are you experiencing?

Most of my problems were posted in the first post, but i'll repost them

The main problems are:
Clears log after power cycle
Asks to copy contacts from sim after power cycle.
Freezes frequently when closing aplications.

Other than that it has been a great phone. I'll suggest a Treo 650, but I'm really not a fan of treos. Maybe I could talk them out of the new iPAQ.

I still love my Nokia, but the point that Cingular was about to treat me like that has just really got my blood going. Im calling tomorrow and requesting a iPAQ as my replacement. I pay $300 for a smart phone with internal antenna and 1.3 meg camera, my three primary requirements. The Treo 650 wouldnt work for me because if i wanted a 650, i would have gotten the refurb from the website for $139 bucks.

From my point of view, Cingular owes me a iPAQ because of their lack in quality customer service or a 650 with a $170 credit towards my bill. They decide.

We are getting bits and pieces of information here. How long ago did you purchase the handset? In most markets this phone was released less than 30 days ago or pretty damn close.

Are you within your 30 days?

if you have had this phone less than 30 days bring it back to the store that you purchased it from and do a buyers remorse. you will get your money back and you can have your old phone back on your acct. hold on to your money until they either get the software prob fixed or another phone comes out that you like. then you can go get what you want on your upgrade.

To what, a 6682. Not hardly, not even in the same league. Smartphone vs. non-smartphone. Enough said in regards to comparing those two phones.

I called in today and they offered me a Siemens S66. I told them I wasn't going to do it because it does not have an MP3 player or any form of operating system for me to use.

I'm not impressed with lock line at all. Do you think that the Cingular store would allow me to swap it out?

Have you had the phone 30 days? If not, just return it for a full refund. If you have had it over 30 days, you shouldn't be going through lockline. Go through Cingular XBM (800-801-1101) and they will send you a replacement. If they don't currently have one, just be patient and keep your 6682. They are coming out with a fix. XBM is warranty exchange and as long as your phone is under warranty, which should be a year, you will get another 6682. But if you want a fix now and can't wait, get a 32k sim card. Your store PROBABLY doesn't have one, but they can be bought for a few dollars on EBAY. That will fix all the bugs in this phone. This is not a myth, this is a fact.

The reason xbm is referring him to lockline is bc of 4.99 insurance/warranty package, when you upgrade to the 4.99 package all insurance and warranty claims are handeled by lockline.

Last look shows that the Siemens SX66 is on Windows 2003, which is decent OS.

NP, just trying to help the guy out, I can see his frustration, but blaming Cingular is not necessarily the answer.
I do think that Cingular is gonna have to get more involved in how XBM or Lockline handles the exchange program.
Giving out moto v180s for Treo 650s or Nokia 6682s or HTC 5600s is not a good look to John Doe customer, unless it is a temp until your phone is repaired.
Equal for Equal should be the thought or mantra of the program...dumbing down the customer experience is not the way to attract customers and adds to the perception (not necessarily the reality) of bad customer care.
Get off the script and add some flexibility to the program. Another missing thing from the ATT days...

I completely agree. I was simply pointing out that if they were offering an SX66, it would be a good exchange, but they were offering an S66, which is completely unacceptable.

But back to the original post....he should not have to deal with XBM or Lockline anyway as, based on the info he has provided in the thread, he should still be within his 30 day exchange period.

1 word. Manufactor.

I work for Cingular WSC (warranty service, and handset repair). The phones were put on a backorder by Nokia, this is not an issue w/ cingular. We do offer substitute phones in your replacement, but if you would like a phone around or near price/features/reliability/reception. I would recommend the manufactor. This is their issue, and their warranty. They abide by their mistakes, and im sure would upgrade you to something better if not the same (if available).

cingular offers a warranty exchange to make the process simple and easy for anything in regards to your plan and services w/ having to deal w/ the manufactor. But in this situation, I would recommend them.
