"The number you have dialed is not a working number..."
I purchased a phone & plan through a local Cingular storefront a little over 3 years ago. I can honestly say that in those 3 years, the only problem I ever had with the phone was an overheated battery which killed the talk time.
I thought it was time to get a new phone and I ended up LetsTalk.com to fulfill my needs. Nice selection of phones, decent price, but most importantly..it allowed me to keep my number.
So I go through the process, select 'contract extension', put in the pertinent info, and off we go. No jumping carriers..Cingular has always done well by me, no sense switching.
Amazingly, I receive the phone the very next day (Sure, I picked overnight shipping..but the site warned of 3-5 days of waiting for activation, etc)...

I don't know the answer, but I figured I'd bump this for ya......seems a little more critical than whether or not Verizon roxors Cingular or Cingular is L337

I agree. I PM'd the person hopefully with some helpful info.

I had a similar problem, It made a difference whether they were dialing the full 10 digit number or if they added a one in front of it. I would have them try both ways.

Problem solved..
After 2 csr calls, an hour and a half on the phone with 3 different csrs in total, taking apart my phone, having them re-activate it on the fly, and having them call me at home on a land line....the problem was discovered! 😁
Apparently, the phone was identified as TDMA in the system...so when land lines and other phones tried to call...it wasn't connecting properly. Go figure.
Works perfectly now!

You will love that phone as well. It is simply amazing with all of the things it does. And I have never gotten better signal on any GSM phone. I can't say enough good things about the S710a
