According to BluetoOrange Cingular is buying out T-Mobile USA. Yay! I am so happy. BluetoOrange is more reliable than any other source. π π π π π π π π π π π

Another decent phone company will go down the Cingular drain if thats true.

Oh yeah, there's a *real* reliable source. He's been anti-T-Mobile from the outset. Yeah, sure I'd trust him (NOT!)

It got really irritating when the guy literally went into EVERY thread posting about Cingular buying T-Mobile. Threads that didn't need it, like some guy asking about T-Mobile's family plans...this guy began ranting about how there'll be rollover when the purchase is done. He did it strictly to try to cause problems, which is why I suspect he did not post it here. I can respect others and their opinions as long as they voice them in a respective manner.

There is no way in hell the FCC would allow Cingular to merge with T-Mobile. It's common sense. Look at all the problems that happened with the Cingular AT&T merger. All those lawsuits, Cingular being banned from the BBB. It's just not happening.
...
Oh snap, so the whole thing was buffalo chips? I almost thought the guy might be serious, haha.
...
i wouldnt go as far as to say that. there would still be two other national providers and plenty of regional.
...
Why not? There's the law of 3s. Once the dust is settled, in almost any industry, there'll be three main contenders.
FedEx, UPS, USPS
Exxon-Mobile, Shell, Texaco
Kroger, Albertsons, Safe-Way
Cingular, Sprint, Verizon
I see it possibly happening. T-Mobile might be expensive, more than AT&T was. I'm not sure though, I really don't want to do the research and just going by the market share in my area.
...
i can see it happening, and if verizon want in on the gsm (for int'l customers) they might bid on it, but i would imagine cingular would bid higher, depending on how bad verizon would want to experiment on gsm. which, if you notice, would give them venture on every available tower system (analog, tdma, gsm, and cdma)

T-Mobile isn't for sale. Lefteyeiu just posted the article on it. It is STRICTLY speculation and "what-if". Everytime DT is asked about it directly, they say it isn't for sale. I'm curious as to why everyone is so anxious to see T-Mobile being sold?
...
DT is the largest cellular company in the world and T-Mobile is its largest growing department. Why would it give it up.

excuse me...fastest growing department

but it would be cool if it were sold

you would be cool if you were sold π

I'm in favor of anything that causes MORE CATHERINE ZETA-JONES COMMERCIALS. Yeah! π
...
Lol.. yea, I am in BIG favor if that happens (her advertisments), however that wont happen.
...
This wont happen though, so everyone can stop saying that it might. If they would, DT, buy cingular it would be the same exact thing because of the divestitures. Plus DT I donβt think has the money to pay for cingular.
...
They have more money than Cingular.
...
That's a nice theory. I like that idea. Then T-Mobile will have native 850MHz coverage, and everybody will get more.

Ford sold of Hertz. GM sold off a lot of GMAC. Companies do stupid things sometimes. In GM's case, they just cut out a hole in an already sinking ship.

Bzzzzt. Incorrect answer, but thanks for playing.
The largest cellular company in the world is China Mobile with over 234 million customers. Vodafone (UK) is number two (165 million.) Number three happens to be in China as well with China Unicom's 124 million.

Actually, that's not accurate either. The largest mobile provider in the world is China Mobile with over 234 million. 2nd is Vodafone UK with 165 million, 3rd is China Unicom with 124 million. The only mobile operator to crack the top 10 is cingular with 52 million. Now if you're talking about a company's assets world-wide that's something entirely different. If you're taking T-Mobile's world-wide assets they are likely at least in the top 10 of mobile operators.

I keep hearing the FCC would never allow it. But I don't think that is true. There are enough regional cell phone carriers and two other major national carriers. Besides that, it would be the Congress that would review this as a monopoly or not. Or maybe that is the Federal Trade Commission. Either way, the anti-trust laws wouldn't stop Cingular from buying T-Mobile or vice versa. If all four tried to merger into one (i.e. Sprint, Verizon, Cingular, and T-Mobile) then I could see senate hearings based on the anti-trust laws. Of course all this is really moot since, DT did say they were not planning on selling their American business just yet and actually suggested they planned on updating the network. The only reason this thread is h...

T-Mobile is a group of mobile phone corporate subsidiaries all under the ownership of Deutsche Telekom. (FYI: the T stands for Telekom) T-Mobile also has financial stakes in mobile operators in Eastern Europe. Globally, T-Mobile has 109 million subscribers, making it the world's 4th largest mobile phone service provider.

Why would Deutsche Telekom want to sell T-Mobile!
Countries where T-Mobile operates GSM networks under the "T-Mobile" brand
Germany 28.2 million
United States 19.2 million
United Kingdom 16.1 million
Czech Republic 4.5 million
Hungary 4.1 million
The Netherlands 2.3 million
Austria 2.0 million
Slovakia 1.9 million
Croatia 1.7 million

it makes no sense t mobile already uses cingular towers in the states and what cingular be gaining the sidekick wow!! what would t mobile be losing... a helluva lot of money it's a lose lose situation! it would be cool though to see cingy buy t mobile but it ain't happenin people.

too many divestitures.. it wouldnt happen. it would be a good idea, but the fcc, sec, ftc wouldnt allow it...
...
you must be kidding me.
you must be talking about tmobile usa though, but yea , that statment is false...
cingular wouldnt buy out tmobile usa, becuase there would be so many divestitures it wouldnt even be worthwhile.

Cingular can't afford T-Mobile USA.

Well, I'm really glad to read everyone's input on the subject I posted. There are so many strong arguments for and against this, that the conversation can go a million ways.
But as history has taught us in this industry, once rumors start, and everyone buzzes about it, the companies involved are hush hush like "Oh, theres no talks" or "Oh, we're not for sale". But AT&T Wireless was saying that even after the spinoff from AT&T in 2001! I remember our entire call center being pulled together (~2000 employees) just so they can tell everyone "We're not going to merge with Cingular!!!". And that was in 2001!
Once the buzz starts to get out, and the executives of the company start to say "Oh, we were just testing the waters", thats exact...

Who would have ever thought "America's Sweetheart Ma Bell" would be split up so many ways???!!!
Only the future will tell my friend. The more the US starts to separate itself from the world as the "rebel child", who knows whats at stake as far as international investment in this country.
...
It won't happen because Cingular doesn't want/need it to happen. The only way Cingular is going to be buying T-Mobile is if they want to. They don't. It would be the worst multi-billion dollar investment in the history of business. What does T-Mobile have the Cingular needs? They surely don't need 20 million more customers. They surely don't need a puney network that they don't even roam off of anymore. They surely don't need useless spectrum that they would have to divest anyway because they have the 70 mhz cap in nearly all major markets.
So you tell me. What would the $25 billion that Cingular would be dishing out for T-Mobile get them?
Having one less competitor and the rights to the Sidekick is hardly worth it.

Well if $25 billion in additional debt and millions of disgruntled customers gives them more power, then I guess Cingular should buy out T-Mobile. π
