Question about switching from Verizon

I have read all the stuff written about the .40 fee added to verizons bill and so you can switch without being charged the ETF. I just have some questions before I do this.

1) what is the fee for? Do I just say that because of this fee, you are breaking your contract and I want out.

2) How can I do this and keep my number?

3) What if they tell me they will credit my account? Can I just tell them, they still are breaking their part of the contract.

Thanks for any help,

I HATE VERIZON

PS: please do not respond to this if you are going to talk about how I have no morals and all that BS, that is a load of bull and you all know it.

If you're really serious about leaving, and have a lot of phones on the account, contact an attorney. I'm not one, but from what I know of contract law, this would be a breach of contract. As long as it's not a direct tax from the government on usage (i.e., government taxing Verizon, and Verizon passing the tax onto you, fee for growth or whatever), this should be a breach of contract, and if you want to leave, you should be able to, sans ETF. A lot of people on here: https://www.phonescoop.com/carriers/forum.php ?fm=m&ff=4&fi=378142

apparently have had some success at switching. Again, I'm not an attorney, so don't take my advice at face value πŸ˜›.

I'd get better servie from verizon if they gave me 2 cans and a string,

Go screw yourself and your morals, verizon brakes my contract every time I make a call and I have crappy service, reception, and dropped calls.

Hey, verizon is a business. If they don't want to treat its customers fairly, ANYONE, can take their hard-earned money elsewhere. And by the way, $175 dollars for a bs early termination fee is a lot of money to some people. I'd rather spend it on something worth while.

by taking advantage of this breach, you can't take your number with you. you have to call and cancel due to the fee in order to get the ETF waived. despite what some verizon fans on this site say, it HAS been done, and people HAVE gotten out without an ETF. If the first person you talk to doesn't do it, kindly ask for a supervisor and so on.

if you want to avoid trouble, just get a new number

it's really not worth it to try to get an ETF waive AND LNP πŸ˜•

Bahahaha, if you haven't done it by now, it's too late! Have fun with your contract and/or ETF!

If you prefer Cingular, that's cool and all... I just like it when immoral people get their just deserts.

just putting my two cents in here, since this is a verizon issue. one, i'm not sure what the 0.40 charge is for, nor do i care. if you don't like your service or have dropped calls all the time, you might be better off somewhere else. if verizon can't improve your reception (ie dropped calls, in and out service, etc.) you should be able to drop your contract with them for no charge (ie, you move to bfe montana...no service...no etf on your contract) aside from that, anyone thinking it's good business practices to cancel your contract with verizon because someone else told you it was ok and you can get deals elsewhere, remember what service is being provided for you. Many posts that i have read on this issue continually refer to the added...

Even T-mobile has its good moments. Though personally, I wouldn't touch them with a 100 foot pole.

Your post was going so well, you just had to hack on poor little T-Mobile. They are a good company and a good fit for many.

LOL, gunny i've read many of your posts and have enjoyed them all. I don't mean to pick on t-mobile, it's just their customers keep coming up to my kiosk trying to pay their bills. Actually, my best friend has t-mobile and there is no way he should switch to anyone else. He had the minutes he wants and the coverage as well. That was kinda my point in my earlier post, if we only focused on getting the right phone and the right service for our customers, we'd see a serious decrease in the amount of "customer horror stories" here in these postings.

Teh funny thing about this that is everyone that is complaining about this is bitching about 40 freaking cents per month. Hell that less than some of you pay for a minute that you go over your minutes. 40 freaking cents. What do you think it costs Verizon for your phone to ask or cancel? $7.00 per call into Verizon customer service. And you are bitching about 40 cents. Pay the $7.00 for each call that comes in and then complain. You should check Cingular and their mandatory service charges. They are more total than Verizon with the new 40 Cents!!

Cry baby!

Whatever. If you want out get out. You signed the contract in the first place. Yea it may not be right for Verizon to change the contract while you are in the middle of it and that is why they give you the option to get out. Like someone else said, pay the 175 and go somewhere else before the October 1st deadline. No biggie and then try to get out of that contract when you are unhappy about something they change. This whole thing just drives me nuts. Everyone complains about this and that and how they should be given "special" consideration. They want to upgrade in 2 months after they just got the phone, get out of a contract because of some next to nothing charge, etc. Nobody forced you to sign a contract or made you buy the $20 flip phone ...

contrary to some peoples' beliefs, Verizon isn't the happy happy joy joy company for all people. Some people DO get high end phones, and end up running into reception problems in the places THEY go. it happens with every carrier. it has nothing to do with people wanting to upgrade early or getting special consideration, it is about a way for the unhappy customers who are simply riding out their contract to avoid an ETF to get out without paying it.

and as far as getting out of other contracts go, there may be ways in the future for people to get out of another carrier's contract. do you seriously think that nobody from Verizon will be on here letting that carrier's customer know they can. i guarantee they would be. the fact of the matter ...

They are leaving. And since Verizon breached their contract, they're not having to pay an ETF. Aren't laws grandπŸ™‚
