Is Cingular really THAT bad??? Need honest help here...

CardinalRule

I've been with Verizon for a long time now, and in the last few months I've started to reach the end of my rope with them.

I can deal with their "lack of cool phones" to a certain extent, but recently they've started to pull some more BS that I'm not happy with.

I've been waiting anxiously for the CDMA RAZR (yes, I know it's been out on Cingular for a long time), and now I come to find out that Verizon is putting some piece of junk generic UI that they put on some of their other phones on this one, and I'm totally annoyed. It looks like crap and is so simple and basic just because pf all the stupid people out there can't figure out how to access the main menu correctly. I would at least like a choice on which UI to have on my phone...

Yes cingulars service is actually that bad. It is no were near that of Verizon, trust me stay with verizon because a phone that works is cooler than a razor that won't work!!! Unless of course you don't mind static and constant dropped calls and much inferior call clarity then go to cingular. Oh yeah they do have rollover hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah ahahahaha

No my friend if you are about to try and defend cingular against verizon you are the one on crack!!!! Why don't you refer the original poster of this thread to j.d. power.com or consumerreports.com that way they can get an unbiased explanation as to why verizon is better!!!!!!! I think you need to read up more on what everyone else around the country is saying!!! Do you need smelling salts?????

I am glad to see that some people are extremely loyal to their service provider and are passionate about their beliefs. Good to see and I can certainly respect that. I work for Cingular blue customer care, and will acknowledge that Verizon has set a very high bar that will be tough to reach and acknowledge that in some markets, we aren't there yet. However, I have been impressed by what I've seen of Cingular's desire to significantly improve customer service, network reliability and enhance coverage. Dropped calls occur in probably less than 3% of all calls made, and we have RF engineers travelling the country 24/7 with our own products as well as our competitors to gauge where we need to improve and where we excel. Our rate plans are compet...

Don't take the word of a cingular employee much too bias. After reading the report findings you will say the same, cingular sucks!!!!!!!!

Yes I have verizon and yes I have had cingular. I also know a lot of people here in chicago who have had or do have cingular and they have nothing but complaints, terrible call quality, horrific customer service as well as dropped calls constantly. Now I know Chicago is the 3rd largest city in the U.S. and if there service is that bad here I can only imagine what it is like in the rest of the country! Also if you go to jd power.com or consumerreports.com you will see that I'm not the only one who feels this way. Most of the country feels the same way also. If you want service that you can rely on, then it's a no brainer you go with VERIZON!!!!!!

Let's not take the word of a Verizon employee either. Especially when he says that Consumer Reports or JD Powers is saying that Cingular 'sucks'. That's not the case at all. If you look at the reports, they just didn't score as well according to those 'surveys'. Of course you could also read some unbiased info from Wireless publications. Let's not forget the 'fact' that it took Verizon three years after it's merger to start doing as well as it is. Also don't forget that Cingular has been merged less than a year and is keeping pace with the mighty Verizon.

And buddy, if you aren't a Verizon employee then that's pretty sad. You look pretty silly wearing the Verizon cheerleader outfit.

in my area (not cincinatti, mind you) about 95% of the area is covered by both carriers thouroghly. the other 5% is either covered by one or the other, so it depends on where you live. (YES, i DID say that Verizon DOES NOT HAVE COVERAGE in some areas here, you Verizon cheerleaders.)

I have been very critical of Cingular on phoescoop. I will continue to point out where I know cingular can do better. Verizon has not faced the challenges that Cingular has faced. Cingular has had two CEO's a complete technology change and a buyout of AT&T wireless in the last 5 years. Verizon has not faced the same challenges. The conversion from TDMA to GSM is like going from AM to FM radio. They are very different in how they are supported by customer care. The billing for these two technologies is also different. AT&T wireless tried to do the same thing go from TDMA to GSM and that comapny is now gone. Verizon has been CDMA forever and there customer care department does not have to explain why TDMA service worked in a customer home and...

in line at any given store for up to an hour.....If you don't mind waiting online forever.....If you don't mind no in store technicians....If you don't mind reaching voice recordings instead of humans when calling customer service.....If you don't mind waiting 48 hours for online chat to respond, then Cingular is for you.

I tried it for 29 days and you guessed it, day 30 returned everything.

Back to Verizon and great CS but really crappy phones.

I've been a customer of ATTWS (then Cingular) for a few years now (Northern/Central VA). I've never had a real problem with coverage (my standards are probably low). Which in a cell phone service is important (coverage, not the standards).
However, the customer service on the phone AND at a couple of Cingular owned stores has got to be THE WORST...EVER!
I can't begin to explain how bad customer service is without getting upset.

If you can find a decent company store with intelligent and more importantly, helpful employees AND have no occasion to call customer service, EVER, then...
Who am I kidding.I give up.

I'm in the Tyson's Corner area.
I think it is the luck of the draw as far as store service is concerned. I've had mixed success at different stores.
At one store the guy didn't even bother to try to find any info beyond what was on his screen. The 2nd store I went to, a second employee was able to dig deeper and get info that the first one that tried to be helpful, wasn't able to.
Now that the databases are supposed to have merged I suppose this may not be an issue anymore, but I doubt it.

i have the razar and i love it. i live in kettering ohio and the best thing about it is i am at work for like 10 hrs and i can only use my phone during breaks and lunches. i have the 7pm caling option so i can talk to free at that time. i haven't dropped a call plus the roll over mins is the best. i already have 2000 min which is anytime. the other good thing is that u can change ur plan and they won't change your 2 yrs plan. i used to work for verizon last year and the coverage is ok but u have to relized that ur phone may work in alot of places doesn't mean that ur vcast will work or ur text messages. they have different maps and coverage for different option and features. also u have to buy a different phone or rent a phone if u want to g...

The coverage could improve. Its on par with verizon, but you can get better in some areas with vzw, and the same for cingy. However, the phones are better at cingy. soon cingy will definitely have the pink razr and probably more important to you, the blue razr. This is most likely, about 80%, but the pink is a sure thing. you may want that.

Cingular is excellent ... except for customer service

Solution:

JUST GOT TO TMOBILE!!!

and he has t-mobile and it kicks ass

or get cinbell, and buy an unlocked version off ebay

by the way im from Akron, OH and t-mobile kicks verizons ass up here 🙂

I honestly can't say my opinion about Verizon because they are not in my state (OK). Our CDMA carriers in my market are U.S. Cellular and now Alltel.

AT&T and Cingular didn't merge in OKC due to holding too much market share (a.k.a. monopoly). So, Alltel bought out the AT&T share from Cingular in the diversed areas.

We have had thousands and thousands of people port from Alltel when they had their window of opputunity because CDMA does NOT work in Oklahoma City period. When US Cellular launched less than a year ago, same problem with them too. US Cellular is not a big player in OKC because they cannot keep up. OKC is a GSM saturated market and will continue to be.

Sprint doesn't do well either unless you stay on or around th...

Several things at play on websites or blogs or forums like this:
1) Legitimate complaints - no issues with those, until they start ranting or raving about perceived slights. Unfortunately those customers who always tell you that the CSR was rude sometimes fail to mention that they probably snapped out at the CSR (Selective Memory Syndrome).
2) Customers or Loyalists to other companies that refuse to say anything good about another company, but are quick to point all the bad that they can find.
3) Flamers or Trolls that like to start trouble and will make up stuff just to keep mess going
4) Kids that just got a computer and will purposely pretend to be a rep/customer and will start trouble just to get a laugh...

I see this on other boa...
