SGH-C207, SGH-E317, or V551?
I (actually my wife) lost my phone (Nokia 6230) and I called CSR about my options. I was told that I could get this August VIP tools offering out of these 3 phones.
My question is which of these has the best reception? I've never used a samsung before, and am seeing that the C-207 gets high marks evn though it's cheaper than the E-317. With the Moto being 2-5 times more expensive than the Samsungs, I would guess it's probably better overall. But my main concern is RF since my house is in a real weak spot.
Also, I've never heard of this VIP tools before, does anyone have info on it? CSR told me it didn't require a contract extension, is this true? Maybe they are just trying to get rid of some overstocked phones?

I dont know what this VIP tools thing is that you are talking about, but the 551 is definitely going to be a much better choice than the samsungs for RF. It just seems to pick up better. While the Samsungs are definitely good phones signal wise, in my experience, the 551 just owns all. Not to mention it has a few features that heavily outweigh the two samsungs.
The two samsungs are only dual band, GSM 850 and GSM 1900. The 551 is a Quad Band: 850/900/1800/1900. While if you are with cingular you probably wont ever use 900 or 1800 anyway, sometimes you can still find a weird place you can roam off with it.
The 551 also supports EDGE high speed data transfer, while the samsungs only do GPRS.

DONT GET THE E-317, its a HORRIBLE phone. Voice quality is horrible on it. Get the v551 or wait for new phones.

How about the C207. The only reason I'm even considering it is because I don't really need/use the EDGE, camera, blue tooth, etc, on this phone. But if the general consensus is that the RF on the C207 does not match or exceed the V551, then I will get the Moto from CSR or a different phone off ebay.

the nokia 6230 has the best reception of any phone we carry. the 551 is pretty decent but the quality of the phone sucks. the only moto worth a darn is the razr. spend the extra money or you won't be happy.

im waiting for the Nokia 6102 if it ever comes out. T-Mobile is getting the 6101 soon.

VIP is a tool CSR uses to search customers eligability for upgrades, as to why they tell you what the system is doesn't really make sense but good luck with your new choices.
