DC Area

Anyone have experience with the DC area in terms of GSM coverage? I am actually in Northern VA and have a t-mobile phone but it will only show me the AT&T 1900 signals. In addition, it won't show me the strength of the signal as I am not a GSM customer.

Is 850 in this area as well? Is the coverage decent outside of DC?

Thanks,
Mark

If you have a T-Mobile phone, it is very likely that the phone only supports 1900 GSM and not 850 GSM because T-Mobile operates only in the PCS 1900 Mhz band.

Cingular uses mostly 850 and some 1900.

What phone model do you have?

You are correct my t-mobile phone only has 1900. So I wondering what service is available here to help me understand what type of reception I will get. If there is no 850, then I can compare against what my phone currently picks up and determine if my coverage will be better.

However, I do have a quad band phone I will be trying out to test as well.

Thanks,
Mark

Hey man, Im from NOVA but live down here in Lynchburg, VA now. My parents still live up there on top of a mountain and Cingular is awesome around that area. Ive never had a problem when Im up there. I usually have full strength whem Im up there especially around 66. Last I heard all of VA is 1900mhz. Someone correct me if Im wrong though. And Ive been all up in Maryland and all over VA and never had a problem. The only time when Ive had a problem with Cingular is around Southern FLorida (Naples/Fort Myers area). What part of VA you live in?

if that whole area is 1900 Mhz, then his T-Mobile phone should work fine.

Thanks... Hmm, I was hoping there would be the 850 areas as well. My t-mobile phone doesn't always find an "att" (I have never seen cingular) signal, so I was hoping there was the 850 band I just couldn't see.

But I have a quad band phone now and will have to try it out. I don't want to get off of TDMA unless I know the service is superior to what I have now. Well actually better then I have now since they shut off some of the towers near me.

Thanks,
Mark

I can promise you from experience that the coverage up in NOVA is superior. Like I mentioned before I have full servce when Im up around that area. Its far better than TDMA.
