TO THE POSTER:
No, Cingular Corporate stores do not price match on handset prices. Sorry.

I have been quoted a much better price on a phone with 2 yr plan that what the regular Cingular store is offering me. If I can show proof of the offer/phone with a 2 yr contract, is a Cingular store able to match the price for the exact same phone and term? (I am ending my ATT commitment and going to straight Cingular, My ATT commitment ends Dec 31, but I am willing to agree to another 2 years with the new phone.) Can a Cingular store match that?
I have a question. Why do you need the store to match that price? Get it from the retailer that has it for the price you want. There's no reason not to buy it from the retailer unless you think something shady is going on (and believe me, there...

I price match reasonable deals quite often. As long as the terms and conditions are the EXACT SAME I will consider a match.
Again though, every "special" deal I have seen if for new activation. Cingular does not pay enough for upgrades (or in your case, a migration) to let the merchant take a smaller profit margin.

Why do people always want to ask the corporate location if they will match the price? Someone offered you a great deal (apparently) so why not take it? I've seen customers drive all around the city trying to price match. Makes no sense to me.
It is usually because they saw it online and have no credit card, or they know it is from a third part vendor and know it is for new activations and they are hoping someone will match it. Which usually never happens.
The question posed, why do I ask? Because I would rather give my local Cingular store the business. And yes I have good credit, excellent payment history and a credit card. It just seemed odd to me that there is a $100 or more price difference on the same phone. I just didn't know if there was a price match policy or not. I would like to keep my business at the local Cingular store. Thanks for the replies/discussion.
Why? will most likely follow. Because it is illegal. Cingular Wireless and most carriers have contractual agreements with dealers and third party distributors (either service or equipment) plus government entities that protect smaller competitors from been push or absorbed by the corporate entity.
If you carefully read the clauses in the contract with such vendor of phone in simple terms says: account number with associated telephone number provided by XXX vendor must be active and in good standing for a minimum of 6 consecutive billing cycles not including the first prorated billing cycle. Otherwise a early termination fee of $XXX is applicable plus the full suggested retail value of phone wi...
