Cingular question

ChgoMike

I'm thinking of signing up with Cingular. Do they offer an online esn change? Can I switch to a different Cingular phone online, or do I have to call customer service? Thanks...

cingular uses sim cards, you just put your chip in a new phone and it works right away. Dont need to change ESN or anything on cingular phones.

Thanks for the info, but sorry for my ignorance.

By "chip" you mean the chip that will come installed in my initial phone purchase? Correct?

Is chip removal difficult to do?

Thanks again...

its a small chip that slides into a slot under the battery. Usually a soft push on it will make it easy to slide it out. Then just slide it into the new phone. You get a SIM card (chip) with the activation. When you store your phone numbers just make sure when it asks about storing it in the SIM you say yes. Then when you get a new phone, swap the SIM card and your address book and stuff transfers to the new phone. No need to call or anything, just switch the chip and your set, the phone programs itself.

I was with At&t wireless now I'm with Cingular. Having been with both companies (and worked with ATTWS) i have learned that nothing has changed. The signal has definitely have gotten 100% better, but the billing & the customer service is the worst part of the service. I had high hopes for this company. I have heard nightmare stories about billing now I'm caught in one. I just want to remind you DO NOT DO IT!

Have you had any other service besides AT&T Wireless/Cingular? From my experience customer service is bad everywhere, even though some are worse than others.

Same here. One question. If you have insurance on your line, don't you have to call in and give them the IMEI number from the new phone?

It is not absolutely necessary but if you are having any issues it is definitely a good idea to update your IMEI and there is no charge for it. An IMEI that is not updated can cause problems with downloading rings tones and stuff. Some Motorola devices actually have problems with data if the IMEI is not updated. in fact most problems with an IMEI not being updated is usually with Motorola phones.

If it is the same equipment type you shouldn't need to give it to them. If you purchased new (different equipment) then you can call. If you don't at the beginning they may ask for a receipt later should you need to file a claim.

Ohh rest assured this billing issue will be fixed. It just sucks that I have watched these companies (former attws and cingular) do this to people now I have to deal with it and its entirely not my fault. I don't know about what your willing to accepted, but I find it to be bad business to inconvenience your customers. I know the business culture in that company so I must say I was not surprised. I was naive and gave them another chance after the merger because I thought things would get better. Boy was i wrong. What a joke. I waste my time (= $) having to speak to reps that don't know the issue but they only want to offer you half trying to get money lost from the merger. Luckily I spoke to a realist (a sup) who knows the BS they try to pul...

I would think long and hard before you make the decision to align yourself with a company such as Cingular.

If you have the free time and the patience to deal with the numerous issues you will encounter - by all means enjoy.

I for one am not a sadist.

cingular is not that bad. i've had the service for about a year now and have never had any billing issues and only 1 time when i had a service issue and that only lasted for a few hours because a line got cut.
