What is a Premium Message/Text? I was charged $.30 for an incoming Premium Msg. I'm still trying to figure out who sent it to me. I don't remember getting anything out of the ordinary....

The only thing I can think of is that you are charged an extra messaging fee if it comes from outside the US.

So maybe someone mis typed the number they were sending the text to...

That's the only thing I can come up with..

Good Luck

Incoming messages are charged the same fee regardless of the source (international or national).

it's an advertisment for either voting, quizzes or alerts for audiences to watch a sporting event, concert, or television show from a third party vendor. Even things like messages from those companys on tv that give free ringtones and things like that.

So Cingular by default - opts their customers into such solicitations?

Hmmm...wonder why ... oh wait... profit...

The solicitation option on the website is for Cingular solicitations only, i.e. advertising new features, phone, etc.

To stop solicitation from 3rd party carriers, you'd have to actually go to the site that sent you the message, and cancel from their end. Cancelling SMS services through Cingular does not stop the charges.

The best way to prevent these is by watching who you send text to (Jamster commercials, for example), and by not putting your phone number in any of those ringtone scam sites.

Always looking to bash, yet you have no basis whatsoever this time (and most times).

Cingular does not opt their customers in for any third party messages. Any messages sent by Cingular for their system (I.e. downloads, minute use/balance, etc.) is generated as a admin message at no charge.

Chicken Little and the boy who cried wolf often come to mind when reading your posts.

Notice that little line at the end that squiggles and has a point at the end just like the end of this sentence? Do you understand what it means? If not, please look up the definition of what an interrogative is.

How is it if one has to go to the website to set solicitation preferences to stop unwanted messages - that that can not be considered a policy that by defaults opts customers into solicitations?

Monsieur Thénadier comes to my mind when reading yo...

The solicitation option is for admin messages sent by CINGULAR'S system, not third party companies. This has been explained over and over to you yet your motives continue to be clear.

Until you either change your motives or leave I will continue to call you on the slanted BS you post.

When Cingular solicits it is not considered solicitation in your mind? Furthermore, you can choose to have the features with the threat of receiving such solicitations and having to pay for them (from others) or choose to not have the features. A very ignoble process by any measure.

How it is you can come to this conclusion I truly do not understand.

Also I might add - the "right" to solicit as you have stated before is a very flimsy right if there ever was one. This is evidenced by the telemarketers who are trying to use any and all reasons conceivable in their efforts to circumvent the do not call list. Something - by the very words you write - you must be all for.

Furthermore, if you are going to "call" me on my alleged slant...

Here you go again, misreading and misquoting.

Customers are informed that they are charged for incoming and outgoing text messages. They are also informed they may shut off text messaging (to avoid any potential charges) if they so choose. Cingular's "opt out" policy of solicitation texts are 100% free. They can also be useful since they inform customers of upgrade eligibility and new rates. Many customers like this info. If you want to argue they should be given a choice on those at the beginning then fine, you'll get no resistance from me.

Customers who receive third party text messages do so because they opted in by downloading a free song or game and agreed to those terms and conditions.

As Cingular has done in the past, an...

These type of messages are typical NOT unsolicited. The customer has received a free game or ringtone (or something similar) from a site with the rights to solicit in the T&C.

Ya they used to be really hard to cancel with. Fortunaly a few carriers got so many complaints about them that they went to the owners of the site and told them if they don't make it easyer to deactivate then they will block their site from the text message system.
