Maybe switching from Verizon to Cingular - some questions.

I'm thinking of switching from Verizon to Cingular but have some questions so any help would be appreciated. The main reason for my switching is that I'm sick and tired of Verizon disabling features on thier phones and then having to pay them 1.99 here or 2.99 there to get them back.

1) How is Cingulars coverage in the Eastern part of the United States from New York down to Florida and parts of the Midwest (Kansas area)? This is where most of my family lives.

2) Does Cingular disable features on thier phones? What I'm looking for is a good phone with camera/video capability and fully functioning bluetooth with High speed internet connection to check e-mails periodically.

3) Is there a plan that offers unlimited internet useage (...

1. It is hard to tell you how good coverage is going to be where you need it when you're asking about generally the east coast. Yes, Cingular coverage is very good along the east coast but like any provider, there will be some trouble areas. It's like hit and miss whether or not you'll be in an area that gives you trouble or not. If you could give zipcodes of areas that you'll be frequenting then somebody can surely give you a better idea of the quality of service. Personally, while traveling myself I have never experienced trouble with Cingular service but I also can tell you that I've never traveled all the way south to Florida with my phone ( I live in PA). Cingular is going to be your closest call to the service that Verizon provid...

If your phone is insured or is under warranty the phone can be replaced at any Cingular store. If the phone simply needs service it may either be done in a Cingular store or may need to be sent away for servicing.

not anymore, for almost a year now that hasn't been the case. i wish it was...

Service techs have almost completely been eliminated. Insurance claims get their phone overnighted to them. warranty claims are done by mail with 3-5 days shipping time, with the option of overnight for $7.50

Wow, thanks for that correction. I guess it's kind of lucky that I didn't know that considering that means I haven't had to replace my phone...

I would reccommend adding an insurance plan onto your phone as it provides the most convenient solution to any problems that may arise.

You must not work for Cingular. That's all wrong.

I've already been corrected, and I stated that I was a customer. It was the last time I checked, but then again I haven't ever had problems with my phone so that was awhile ago. Thanks. 🙂

Thanks for the help with the questions -- I certainly appreciate it.

I think the reason my phone has so many issues is that Verizon uses thier own crappy software on their phones and it's like a Microsoft product (full of bugs). I'm thinking that phone from Cingular might not have as many problems as the software from the factory isn't messed with.

Thanks for the help once again.

If the eastern region is the worst, then I'm inmpressed! I live there, I travel there, and I've never experienced any network problems. NY is in the east Cingular outperforms most there. Why do you say that the east is the worst? I know the southern regions, especially through Texas are Cingular's strong points but as I've said, I've never experienced any problems.

we just switched recently from verizon to ingular. we're in NY state, where verizon couldn't seem to address our signal issues. so far, there have been a couple of issues with Cingular, but I either called them or visited my local agent. We don't have a company stor ein our area. In each case the problems were resolved within minutes. I love being able to actually complete my calls myself instead of having them consistently end by being sropped. The web access is right for what I need, wuick e-mail, weather map, etc. We pay 4.99 for each phone for 1Mb Medianet. And I do have 'more bars in more places' than I ever had with Verizon. Also cingular has little things that I had asked verizon about. like checking detailed logs, both minut...

He said he wanted his service to work, for the most part, down the east coast. I know for a fact that if I drove down through the Carolinas with a T-Mobile phone I would just be SOL.
