Network Intergration

What exactly is all this Network Integration that I keep hearing about? Does this mean that I am not using the ATT towers yet? Does this mean that ATT towers are there as some type of back up, but once integrated won't? Does this mean that my signal is gonna improve even more once integrated? Because if it is, I'm gonna be very surprised with Cingular. My reception is phenomenal!

Depends on your area.

Areas without both ATTWS and Cingular are not experiencing much change. Your usage of towers is close to what it was before.

Areas with both (Like Dallas-Ft. Worth) are currently going through network intregration to allow the blue (ATTWS) towers to work with the orange (Cingular) network to improve coverage and capacity.

I just made the switch to Cingular this weekend. I find all this talk about integration interesting because based on Cingular’s advertisements, I assumed the two networks had already been integrated. Just gullible, I guess. Does anyone know the timeline for integration in the Florida panhandle (Pensacola area)? I read somewhere else that the carrier indication on the phone will change once we’re on the “Allover” network. Mine says Cingular. I have to say, however, that integrated or not I’m getting an awesome signal here at home, which I didn’t have with my other carrier.

When the integration is done it will change to USA400 I think or something similar to that.

It not that it will necessary display that but that is the identity of the towers. Some older phones will display the new code instead. The newer phones will say cingular or ones that will take the update. Some older phones alpha tag is built in and is based on the code it reads. If it does not recognize the code it will display the code instead.

I can imagine very confusing, and the only way around it is to update your device.

what? cingular will be replaced by USA410? I much rather my phone to have "Cingular" displayed as a banner than USA410...

Why would anyone reply to a message with the word incorrect it capitals? could you be any more pompous? I NEVER (see i can use caps too) said anything about your phone displaying USA410, That is just technically the name of the gold network

I would be a little more sarcastic to moto with this response considering his ignorance in this matter, but seeing as though he is WAY off topic with his response I'll let it slide.

You phone's, newer ones, are going to show Cingular. but that doesn't mean the mnc they are on is Cingular... It could be MNC150, or 99 one of 4 others (old SBC towers, ATTW towers and all other towers from all other mergers, including towers cing may have bought in the past) Hence the need for an all over uniform...

Is there a timetable when this will be completed in each area? Does anyone know when Springfield Missouri is scheduled for completion? Thanks!

The integration is only going to clear up some spots and won't make much of a different in other spots, in reality, it'll be making the network larger. If there's two towers, a former AT&T tower and a Cingular tower covering the same area, they're going to re-adjust the power of the Former AT&T tower and the Cingular tower to cover more area rather than the overlaps. Also, they'll be removing towers where they aren't needed when a cingular tower can cover an area and the extra former AT&T tower won't be needed. It makes me wonder though, do you think they'll be recycled, the towers and put up in other places to extend the network?

That also makes me think, because that could save them millions, and it would help us get better coverage.

How realiable is your service if you have to keep asking, "Can you hear me now?"

Just to let you all know. The network intigration should not affect to many peoples service/coverage (regarding downtime), all Cingular is doing is a clean up of the network. It is that simple, kind of like doing a giant spring cleaning, out with the old and in with the gold. 😁
