Network Question

I was wondering, how extensive is Cingular's use of the 850 band? Like, if I were to purchase through one of zillions of exporting sites a European phone (900 band), would I be able to use it? I realize that there is still the 1800 and 1900 bands, I guess my question is how extensive is the use of just the 850 band?

most of the frequency cingular uses is on the 1900....a european phone 900 band, would still work in some limited areas. you would definitely not get half of the coverage cingular offers though.

Cingular uses the 1900 band on the west coast and The east coast uses 850 (with some exceptions in areas that already had 1900 bands). I would not use a European phone. I have had customers try to use unlocked non subsidary phones in our market and they will not work. Best thing to do is to visit a local Cingular store or Authorized dealer and ask them what freq. the system in your area uses. Also ask if they have had customers that have used unlocked phones in the local market.
