Warranty exchange results in returned damaged phone

I recently experienced problems with an att branded Samsung S7 edge that I own. The phone worked fine other than the fact it would not update to the new version of Android that was released early this year. I could not access the wi-fi calling and the battery drained like crazy. After taking the phone to an att store twice and multiple phone calls to customer care, they eventually agreed to exchange the phone. They sent the new phone with instructions and packaging to return the old phone. So I shipped the old phone back and I thought my problem was finally fixed. Until today came, the original phone has been returned to me. Problem is the phone has an 1/2 inch deep gash in it and a shattered screen. The phone looks as if it was vand...
