AT&T shutting off "2G"

This actually isn't news, but I couldn't find discussion in this forum, so wanted to ask if anyone has heard any details about it. AT&T have announced that they're going to be discontinuing 2G, GPRS, and EDGE data on both 850 and 1900 bands. They are apparently also reallocating some usage of LTE data, but I don't have details handy (and they're not easy to find, at least by me).

I don't really know enough to understand the impact to, for example, GSM voice on 850 and 1900. Does anyone know which phones, if any, will be affected by this change (effective 1/1/17, but some changes going into effect sooner, according to some discussion)?
