Treo 650 - Cingular or Verizon??
Which provider is better with this phone?? Which has faster internet surfing?? Which is better with Email?? Do either limit any of its functions?? I've always been a palm user so I've been looking forward to getting my hands on one... just don't know with which provider. Help please.......

Bluetooth is always limited on Verizon to bluetooth earpieces and hands free devices. What I mean is no bluetooth data transfer no sending pics or files through bluetooth. The email fucntions are the same on both carriers. The browser on cingular is much faster at about 200kps more than double the speed of XRTT on Verizon.

Thanks for the response... I thought I read somewhere that the cingular edge was only up to 138kps or something like that. Is that true?? What speed is xRTT??

I rountinely get 200-220 kbps speeds on my edge PC card. Same technology as will be in your GSM Palm 650. EV-DO is much faster but I don't think it is available on the CDMA Palm 650.

There are several different classes of EDGE. Depending on the class (generally 4-10), the higher the class, the faster the data rates. 138kbps is the average throughput of EDGE so a class 10 EDGE phone will experience a much higher speed. Cingular's Treo 650 uses class 10 EDGE, giving you the fastest speeds possible on Cingular's network.

It does. Thanks. Now I need to figure out where to get the phone from. Cingular store or from BestBuy. Thought of BestBuy cause of their instore warrenty and exchange policy. Any thoughts on that???

Cingular stores are going to be more knowledgeable on your device. Best Buy will be more likely to set you up on the wrong kind of plans for your Palm as well. Cingular is going to know what kind of data plan to put you on due to your needs and things like that. Bust Buy reps more than likely wont know, or even know to put you on one. I would only do it at Best Buy if you have done your homework on the plans and know exactly what you need. Also, Cingular stores have a 30 day in store exchange/return policy and a year warranty on the device, but I dont know what Best Buy offers. Hope that helps. 😁

I already have an account with Cingular so I'm just gonna buy the phone out-right (without and plan) and take it from there. Since I've been told that Cingular won't cover the treo in their insurance plans then I'm looking for better/easier warrenty coverage.

Lockline the insurance provider for Cingular and Verizon does not insurance PDA's. You might try to by a phone from an authorized dealer that has their own insurance program that covers PDA's. Try an exclusive delaer of Cingular or Verizon a dealer that is not company owned but only sells one carrier. They tend to at times ahve their own insurance that you can purchase at the point of sale.
