i really dont think the largest network has to do with anything. most people i talk to go with what works well in their area.

i mean dont get me wrong, "largest all digital network bla bla bla" sounds great from a selling point, but if your not someone who travels a lot then that feature doesnt really do you any favors does it?

we use to have t-mobile, but for the same family plan price cingular offered us 50 more minutes and rollover. I'm not sure what sprint, verizon, nextel were offering since they don't use the GSM network I didn't bother looking into them. Plus just about everyone I know either had cingular or AT&T. Since the merger, I knew these would be Mobile to mobile calls to either carrier. Everyone now and then with t-mobile we would go over our minutes and get a high bill. Not with cingular. my bill is always the same and we have over 2000 minutes rolled over. We could go ballistic on the phone a few months and it would hurt us. But I call most of my family and friends on their cell phones and they all have att, cingular, go phone. I don't get charged ...

I'm with Cingular mainly because when I first got a cell phone, back in 2000, they had the best rate plans for my money. After that, there would always be some reason to stay with them another 2 years, either rateplans, or, now we're all under family talk and some of my friends have M2M. I am thinking of switching to Sprint, though, mainly because of a discount I get because of where I work (23%). I have other friends with Sprint, so it really wouldn't make much of a difference in that department.

Right now, I'm about 75% satisfied with the phone selection. Whenever I check out the selection, I never find one that I really really like, at any price. I usually have to settle for one, but grow to like it, or at least tolerate it. One ...

i think one is from att but i am not sure which one it is so heres both

i read that you were thinking of changing while i was reading cingulars board...let me tell you somethings to think about...

is your 23% off worth the inadequate, rude, incompetent customer service?

is your 23% off worth having your account possible messed up for a few billing cycles because as a rep, i hardly ever seen anyone apply a company discount accurately worked in the business accounts and 80% off company discounts i saw were not applied correctly or not applied at all.

I've been with sprint for years, have a 23% discount, worked for them....i also could get free service with another carrier but have no plans to change....i'm lazy and to be honest, despite the issues, i love sprint . I've had horrible cs and rarely had goo...

See, that's what I'm debating. I have about a year before I can switch to decide whether or not it's worth it. Although the media is saying Cingular's CS bites, I've rarely had a problem with them. It's weird how everyone loves their own cellular provider. I guess they don't want to sound dumb saying they chose something that isn't as great as something else.

phone selection - in my opinion cingular is the best: i prefer nokia & motorola since they have consistent reception & good battery life. i also prefer the menus (esp nokia) bc they are intuitive.

service - my experience has been that cingular has excellent reception. i use my phone in OK, TX, Northern VA, DC, and MD and have had few, if any, problems. customer service is another issue. i'm not sure that any wireless provider has great customer service.

rate plans - i have been comparing verizon & cingular (since i believe they are the most widely used & most reliable) and they offer identical plans.

my rate plan (cingular nationwide 600min/$49.99) is perfect for me. (btw: they quit offering this plan as of june 1, 2004) my fam...

it seems like it's hit or miss with any of the carriers. i have friends in bethesda/rockville/gaithersburg/germantown with verizon, and it seems to work quite well in those particular areas. another huge perk with verizon is that it works on the metro. i'm not up in the baltimore area much, but as far as t-mobile goes, i have to call my friend on her boyfriend's phone when she is in arlington & georgetown bc she doesn't get reception with her new t-mobile service...then again, my cingular phone doesn't work in her basement in georgetown either 😕 ...i guess you never know.

I have Cingular because of the discount, 18% a month. However once you include text messaging fees, im paying almost exactly what I was paying at T-Mobile with textmessaging and without the discount. So I am going back to T-Mobile soon I think. Granted its much smaller coverage, but it works ten times better in my area. I very seldom leave the area, i think twice in the last 2 years.

I miss T-Mobile, 5 cent text messaging, I had EXCELLENT service in my house where as Cingular cuts out constantly and I cant hear a thing. I do have a problem with both of them roaming to Canada, cingular takes the charges off, tmobile used to give me a hard time about it though. Nothing against Cingular, im sure it works perfectly for some in other areas, just not mine.

Im wondering if they will give me a phone discount if i come back, i left December 28 2004. I was thinking the new samsung e335 but im having problems with the poor sound quality on the e317 at cingular, the volume is way too low and distorted.

i dunno what to do. Cingulars signal is weak at my house and i cant use my phone or it cuts out and hangs up, then switches to canadas signal then hangs up and switches back, its pretty bad. T-Mobile worked like 98% of the time. I just have to debate giving up the discount cause i never go over my 450 minutes so rollover is useless, and i hardly ever leave my home area, and if i do, i think most cities are covered by T-Mobile. I drove to Cedar Point and my phone worked perfectly. I wonder if the speaker on the e335 is better than my e317?

it might be...i mean like i said, i have no complaints about the 317. i wanted that phone. when i had the last year i was always like "this phone would be perfect if it had an external display" and waaaLAAA lol

well cingular takes the roaming off every month. Its just a pain in the ass never having service i can talk on. as soon as i hit the green button, boom the signal goes to 1 bar, and ask i talk its like a robot on drugs, i cant hear a word it just crackles in and out and i hear parts of words, then it finally hangs up and goes to canada, then i call back and it works for a while and then hangs up. Its rediculous, T-Mobile used to roam to Canada once in a while, like maybe 4 times in a year i had a charge on my bill for roaming, but T-Mobile isnt so willing to remove the charges. I live 2 blocks from the Canadian border. Having ****ty service isnt really worth the discount. I was paying 51.00 at Tmobile including taxes and texts that i used. A...

haha, i dont have a choice in that matter. But i do have a choice in companies. Im wondering if T-Mobile will allow me to come back and get rebates on a phone and stuff. Maybe I will call and ask them and see about the roaming situaton if they will take them off every month. I never go to Canada so its not like im there.

I just worry that ill switch and Cingular will buy T-Mobile then im screwed! My cousing went to T-Mobile from Cingular and would never go back, i went for the discount and look what happened!

How do you feel about T-Mobile vs. Cingular overall, any one you like better?

Jul 4, 2005, 11:26 PM
well i think cingular has better phone selection, better media services and has rollover.

tmobile, well i am not really sure, i like the calling plans, but i really only went with tmobile because i wanted a sidekick II and i have nothing but good things to say about tmobile. the cool thing about tmobile is that they arent one of the giants like cingular and verizon so they arent trying to bend you over every chance they get.

and i dont think cingular will buy tmobile. simply because its having a hard enough time with the att migration which i dont think will even be complete til mid 2006 or something. it'd be a big hairy mess for them to add tmobile you know? although i wouldnt mind it.

see if you can get some kind of formal agreem...

oh yeah i read that. and what sucks is if i sign up on the 600 one, when that one is available, promotional plans require contract extensions. I am really debating going back to T-Mobile, i very seldom travel out of my coverage area locally. My only issue is with the roaming to canada and them giving me a hard time about it. The discount at cingular is basically wiped away once u pay an arm and a leg for text messaging, 2.99 for 50 messages. its 5 cents a msg at T-Mobile. I only left for that 8.10 discount.

So I callled T-Mobile. The lady said I would be eligible for rebates since I would be considered a new customer. Also she said most likely if I ever have roaming in Canada there wouldnt be a problem taking them off for me like Cingular does. Only thing is they dont have any plan for the price of Cingular which includes my discount of 8.10. So I would have to go with the 39.99 600 anytime unlimited nights and weekends with 35.00 activation fee.

yup, but who knows, T-Mobile is always so friendly on the phone. The lady was asking me about where i live and how Niagara Falls is and how wonderful it would be if i came back and so on. I remember I used to get that everytime I called. I gotta figure out what I should do. Id be giving up the 18% discount but I would probably be getting better service. I wonder how long the T-Mobile grace period is, maybe i should order a phone from amazon.com and test it for a few days, then port my number if its still as good, i wonder if I can do that, port my number after ive already started using the phone with a new number?

I choose Cingular today and any day. The service keeps getting better and better. My bluetooth phone is NOT crippled (any questions, refer to the V710 forum) I get to use the features of my phone whenever I want. The GSM technology. Did I say ALLOVER network? I'm with Cingular bcuz of the phone selection. Granted if the service (connection) sucked I woulda been gone a long time ago, but the service is excellent where I use it. Customer service is at the opposite side of the scale but getting better. For one reason or another I have had to call CS every month since starting service 11-2004. As for the rate plans, at the time I switched from Verizon, Cingular had better rate plans, and definitely (once again) better phones.

Back when I was in the game, the biggest debate was are you a flip-style or candybar-style user... Now its: how come its not free? I deserve this or that...
Still have the same setup as when I ran the company, I use Nextel, my wife uses Cingular... Been happy with both...
