Andromeda1028

Mar 18, 2004, 11:38 AM
I am proud to announce that this statement was verified by two Corporate Cingular Rep's. The well known Nextel Push to Talk feature will be coming to Cingular by June of 2004! This feature will be avail. by using several different vendor phones. Prices for phones and Push to Talk feature are not yet known.

Cingular's delay is not even 1 second...this is from someone who was actually testing them. Release is slated for this summer, but realistically, i would guess 3Q this year.

tested on a Nokia phone...not sure of the model..dont know of any prices yet, but i'm sure there will be a few in different price ranges to choose from..

Cingular's BUYOUT of ATTW will go through as soon as the government approves the sale. the paperwork has already been filed with them.

The buyout will have no impact on the functionality or the PTT service - ATTW uses the same type of network as Cingular, so it will just me assimilated.

It isn't any Nokia, much less the 5140. I emailed the contact for PTT testers, to ask what will be offered, and asking specifically about the 5140. She replied that currently no Nokias are slated to be offered. The only phone I've heard mentioned regarding Cingular's PTT is a modified Siemens S56.

Who did you call to get this information? Can I have their information to contact them? And I have heard nothing about an S56 because look at cbit and ctia events and there were a lot of ptt phones and none were the s56 modified. There is a V400P coming- if anyone has a 36** (any nokia 36** series phone) or a p800/p900 or a 6600 or something go to fastchat.com - they have walkie talkie service via a small application

Not necessarily. It depends on the technology they go with. AT&T was pretty committed to the Nokia's PoC "pre-standard" last I heard, while Cingular has been testing several technologies.

I've heard a lot about Cingular testing Motorola and Siemens PTT handsets. Moto, Siemens, and Sony Ericsson have all converged on a "pre-standard" that's different from Nokia's version.

I've also heard from credible sources that Cingular is also considering Kodiak's RTX technology, a third option that is totally different and incompatible with the...

Hey Rich, I heard that Kodiak's standard was supposed to be very responsive and efficient. I've even heard of them picking up contracts with European carriers. Are any carriers looking like they might use Kodiak's standard here?

Alltel uses it already, and it seems to get good reviews. Orange in Europe will be using it soon. I haven't heard of anything else definite.

I just had a brief meeting with the same Cingular Rep that originally told me of the June PTT rollout from Cingular. Although I didn't ask him what phones he did confirm that A) He just had confirmation via a meeting that he was just attending that they still plan a June PTT Release. & B) Ability / Hardware in the area that I live in is already in place "We just need the phones in the members hands and the service turned on". That's all for now! The three things I would really want to know are. 1) What phones will be avail. right away? 2) Any delay in talking or will it be instant PTT ability like Nextel & 3) Pricing Pricing Pricing??? (For Regional & Nationwide PTT)

Ability/Hardware is in place just about everywhere, based on what i know.
1) not sure of any phone models
2) it will be about 1/10th of a second slower than nextel (so basically no difference 😉 )
3) No idea on pricing whatsoever

This is the same information we are hearing here also. The software for VoIP PTT has been loaded for sometime both versions they were testing. However, handsets are not ready.

All the Cingular customers I know wanted them to go with the Kodiak system. It is far superior to any VoIP solution. I guess they have put too much $ in their data system.

1) Nokia flashlight phone 5140 and a Motorola should be ready.
2) The delay will be better than Sprint's but not as fast as Alltel's. It will all depend on network conditions since it is VoIP. Similar to your internet connection, fast early morning or real late at night. 10 am in the morning will be slower.
3) Should be a $10-$15 add on to any GSM plan.

We all have our fingers crossed that even though they do offer this VoIP PTT that they will migrate to a voice channels PTT system. Comments from de la Vega suggest that are still considering this.
