Most call centers have rules against stating where you actually are due to security issues...whether or not everyone observes these rules is something else entirely. I NEVER indicate the call center I am in. All I say is "south west".

Just figured that i'd share this becuase it seemed to fit
Call:
Caller, "Can i ask you a personal question?"
Me, "uhh sure."
Caller, "What race are you?"
Me" uhhhhh......."
Caller I mean no offense are you white? I'm just curiouse becuase you have an acesent that i've never heard before."
Me, "I'm white."
Caler, "were are you from."
Me, " western washington, (really I'm a Cannuck, but the hole non discloser thing.)"
Caller, "Does everyone there talk like you?"
Me, " I guess so, I don't think i talk any differently then anyone else in my area."
That was pretty much the end of it. The reason why we can not disclose our call centre location is becuase some Americans get pissed off becuase we are out sourced...

I suspected that was the reason for nondisclosure. 😕 Yes, poor India...the people there just need jobs...they don't need abuse from ignorant, ultra right-wing Americans that can't handle speaking to someone more intelligent than themselves in another country. I'm so sick of American ignorance...I'm seriously considering moving to Vancouver and never looking back. You dont know how many times, I've been called out for being Canadian. In our center we are supposed to say "based out of Peramus NJ." Most reps just say they are from Canada anyway though. Actually, the Canadian accent is kind of a Pan-UK amalgam, and the individual vowel sounds in question are actually closer to Scottish and Irish than English. It's from the large number of Gaelic speakers who colonized Canada (and also the U...

It doesn't completely stop at the border though - I grew up in northern Washington in a little town right on the Canadian border. We always used to make fun of the way that the Canadians would talk (they would always come into town to buy beer and cigarettes because we have less taxes on them here).
Then one day I realized that other than not saying 'eh' a lot - that we all sounded pretty much the same as them!

I'm like cottage cheese in a refrigerator and I pick up accents something terrible... So I worked with some Canadians at one time and I started sounding like them--still can if I think about it. It's weird, though, I can do about eight distinct British accents well enough to fool someone from England who doesn't speak that exact dialect, but when I actually travelled to England I got thrown into my aunt's Texas accent, then reverted to Brit when I went to France. The inside of my brain must be a strange and scary place... 🤣

Have you ever considered that perhaps there is another reason people don't want to talk to reps in India. Perhaps it's the fact they can understand about 1 out of 5 words they say. They pay X amount per month and when they have a problem they have to talk to someone they can't even understand? I'd be pissed too.
American Ignorance huh? And you assume a whole country is ignorant based on a select few. If you hate us so much...

Um, I'm not making assumptions about the entire country, I'm stating that "ignorant, ultra right-wing" Americans are, well, ignorant. I state that this group of Americans can't handle speaking to someone more intelligent than themselves...how many Americans do you know that can speak a word of Hindi? Or even know what Hindi is? Again, I was not bashing all Americans, just the closed minded ones that can't see past the person that they're talking to and actually see the person that's holding their puppet strings.

I agree, have you ever tried to talk to Rogers... or better yet, CALL BELL CANADA.... you will never be able to understand anyone who picks up the phone... Where is my convienence store... once I got yelled at by a store rep for being canadian (when he called in and i didn't give him the answer he wanted- but the correct answer) he proceded to yell at me when i said i didn't have a way to xfer him to an american rep (he thought i didn't know what i was doing, or we had different policies or something) but then on the other end of the spectrum i had a really nice store rep from texas call in and say "why, little lady you've got the cutest canadian accent" so it really does depend on the person not the contry on how ignorant they are- but I do find alot of people Mostly americans- canadians as well though, are fairly close minded.

Just curious, how bad are taxes in canada? whats the difference between your gross and net pay? I heard the taxes were pretty high but if its not too bad its probably worth paying. Also, Is marijuana fully decriminalized there or do the police just overlook it?
...
perhaps i shoulda added a few "eh"s to my post lol
...
At this time marijuana is not fully decriminalized- they do allow it for medical use, and most police turn a blind eye unless it is a large grow op or huge sales etc- but they don't care if they see people smoking it etc. (well at least on the island here they don't). But if you get a cop who wants to really inforce the law and you get caught with just the right amount of pot the US will not let us in to the country! They at that point consider us criminals if we have one mark on our file related to a marijuana fine :S

I just remember in my hometown that they would bring it in big hockey bags - I wasn't into that whole scene, but in a small town, everyone knows about it anyway. We had a massive smuggling operation going on in our town. It got so bad that the police launched a massive campaign to shut it down. It's stupid to even try--I guess we learned absolutely nothing from Prohibition! Legalize ALL of it, tax it and use the proceeds to fund rehab, education and diversion programs. The true addictive personalities will kill themselves very quickly, leaving the sensible people who know how to manage their bad habits to carry on without a ton of their tax dollars spent prosecuting victimless crimes. Get rid of all the blue laws while we're at it--if somebody wants to rent a part of their body to someone who wants to buy it, let 'em!
