Hey guys... I work in a call center and I am thinking of going to a retail store. Has anyone here went from CS to retail? If so, is the pay considerably better? I know I'd have to work for commission, which I've never done, but I know our company and the phones well. I think I'm stuck doing what I'm doing at the call center for a while and need more money. I don't want this to turn into a CS vs. sales thread, just trying to decide where in the company to go and what to do. I know of a few agent stores that do well in sales, but because of being a Cingular employee, I'd rather stay that way, but I haven't ruled that out as an option. I think there is a difference in pay being Corp. and agent, which also makes it a harder decision... Any feedb...

Ask Jackie she used to be Customer Care.

I did that. I am happy in my choice. The money will be better for you as long as you are willing to work for it. What I have learned in my experience is that the majority of sales reps, that have a customer service background, tend to do well because they have the knowledge of the system and are more willing to help, which at first may seem that your commissions would be effected but overall it helps you because you get more referrals by helping people. If you want to talk in "detail" about it just pm me 😁

Thats interesting, as I have experienced the opposite.
Most of the customer service reps I have hired seemed to think the money would just "come to them" due to their knowledge. Why they did well helping individuals, they seemed unwilling to work to achieve the sales needed to exceed their budgets. They didn't like doing their callbacks (checks with new sales to ensure satisfaction and referral leads) and were frustrated when they didn't make as much as they did at the call center.
We both agree though, you have to be willing to put in the effort. It will not just come to you, but the efforts will yield great commissions.

Thanks for all you're replies. I do have a feeling that I would be one of those people that would take a while to get commissions coming in because i have one the longest AHT in my center because I tell people about everything I can possibly think of. Before I came to work for Cingular, I was in the hotel industry. I think in the year and a half of doing this, I've learned a lot. I am going to start putting in resumes at local stores if the promotion I want here doesn't go through. I'll keep everyone informed.
