You Don't Use Cingular??!!!!!

😳
I get this all time whe people find out I work for one wireless company but use the service of another. I want to know how many employees of cingular have phones by another carrier and why?

I have sprint. I had it for 5years and before them I had cingular back in the day. I find that for what I use my phone for, my current carrier is the best right now. So even though I get a employee rate plans (1000 min for free) and 30% off equipment and accessories. It is cost effective for me to stay where I am in the long run.

😈 i have tmobile...they have great customer service and great plans. i would never have cingular because with the people that i work with in this call center...i wouldnt want anyone here dealing with my account.

I don't use Cingular, but then I don't work for Cingular either... 😉 However, I do have TMobile and also work for them as well.

Customers don't understand that call center employees move around a lot, aren't necessarily eligible for discounted employee accounts and sometimes are under contract to another carrier... 🙄

exactly... people don't get that... in my area, there are call centers for every carrier...so reps jump around to different carriers all the time. Heck I had an interview with T-mobile and verizon.

work for att/cingular and i use tmobile.

reason? i see how cingular works and the way they rip people off. i like my one year contract and unlimited text messaging for 9.99 (expired promo, glad i got that one when i could) and even though they may not have as much coverage, it works for me very well in my location.

i once drove all the way to duluth, mn from stl, mo and lost service for less than an hour total on my 14 hour trip.

oh yeah, and can we say customer service??

my unlimited text is one of the reason why I am still with sprint... i don't talk on my phone much and also I know the ends and outs of Sprint...so I can manipulate to get what I want there 😈

So how did Cingular bend you over?

It is amusing to me how many Cingular customer care reps say Cingular customer service is poor. Aren't you degrading yourself?

Oh, BTW, how could one be on Cingular 5 years ago? Are you talking about the pre-merger company or are you just bull s**ting?

I didn't look back but if you said you were with Cingular 5 years ago then yes.

Considering Cingular didn't exist 5 years ago I am curious about that statement. I have caught some people exaggerating and some people just associate the pre-merger company with Cingular as one in the same.

Just wondering about the statement in general.

Cingular Wireless was formed as a joint venture in October of 2000. The actual launch of Cingular was not until January 14th, 2001.

As a customer he would not have been aware of the Cingular name until January. As an insider he might have.

Whatever.

My whole point is that I am curious as to who his provider was beforehand. 5 years ago he wasn't with Cingular. That's like saying he had Verizon back in 1997. Just isn't possible.

Many people associate their old provider with Cingular and don't think of them as two difference entities. He might have been SWBell Wireless or Bellsouth or Pacific Bell or whatever.

I also have run into people who just like to exaggerate. I have no idea why they choose to, but they do.

Maybe he was just guestimating. If someone asked me when I started my SprintPCS service, off the top of my head I'd probably say about 3 years ago. If they asked when I'd cancel, I'd probably say abo...

3.I dont think there is anymore 1 call rez anymore because I dont feel with the tools that I now have to work with that I have the proper tools to resolve alot of the billing isuses that come up now (see ...

Wow you guys have a 250 limit? As a CSR I we had a (have) a $20 limit, as an advanced care rep CSR II (we deal with wireless data and retention) we have a $100 limit. Our Sr. Reps have 250 and coach has 500.

I work for T-Mobile, and use the service, too....works fine for me....I used to work for cingular (sales), and I had verizon when I worked for cingular...mostly because I was under contract with them but it ran out, so I decided to get cingular...without very much investigation unfortunately I ran into the (and I don't know if it's still the same way now) roaming thing. I got a 6340i GAIT handset, this was when cingular had just started the tsma-gsm transition, and telegence had a different log in name and password for each market, a...

Hell no I don't use cingular!! I have T-mobile. I work for Cingular, but tey totally screwed me over on my bill. The customer care rep I spoke to treated me like I don't know how to read a bill and that I don't know about the policies. Even after I told the rep who I was, and that I deal with these problems cause I manage a store for them, she did nothing. I had to go to the Rae since I'm an exclusive agent, and even after that, it took them weeks to credit the money they owed me from a simple billing error. I kept the getting the run around cause everyone is too afraid of getting written up with cingulars messed up policys. After I got it squared away, I switched to Tmobile, and even though the network is not as strong as cingulars (well ma...

It has been the more reliable service. I ahve a blue employee phone with unlim everything except LD, but the service is spotty. I can barely get a signal at work (ironic, huh?).

I get this all the time and just explained it in another thread, I use Cricket. For anyone who's never heard of it (they have a Cricket forum here) its a prepay service that gives you no-gimmicks, totally unlimited day or night minutes. There are no upgrades or promotions, you pay full price for your phone and there is no contract.

One downside to Cricket is that you get no service outside of your local calling area, but I dont mind that a bit since I hardly travel (and when I do, the last thing I need is a phone call).

Sorry if this sounds like a full-blown commercial for the service, but its a breath of fresh air after a long day of dealing with people whining for free phones and contract disputes.

oh a side note on signal in a home...

A customer was yelling at me because everytime he went into his kitchen he couldn't make a call. That was the only place in his house that there was a problem. After 20 minutes of trying to explain to him about "issue we can't control"(ie airspace in your home...etc) and him yelling more. I finally said..

"Look would you like me to get my shovel and hammer and build a tower in your kitchen!"

Seriously, is it that much of a problem to just not make calls in there?

I would've probably told him the same thing. I know I cant make calls in my kitchen, but how badly do I need to call someone to let them know what kind of meat i'm putting on my sandwich? If you have to call someone that bad, you have one of two options:

1) leave the kitchen...idiot.

2) Plug in a landline phone in your kitchen...moron.

And yes, despite my outbursts I have great scores every month as well.

I worked for convergys when they were vendors for Sprint in TN...the closed the center here so I applied for all the other carriers around the area. My coworker did convergys for ATT and she applied to work for cingular b/c they were paying her crap in Clarksville, TN.

I think it is funny that Convergys for ATT people were making 3 dollars less than Convergys for Sprint.

Fine...you want to pay everybody's early termination fee, and give them a kicka$$ plan with a carrier that they don't want to use??? There is a big difference here. Sometimes you HAVE to have a job you don't like OR want...why should that also apply to your wireless service??? Funny story.
We are now cingular, but were once ATT.
These were also the days before gsm.
One day, when the call centre had just openend, the big head honchos of ATT and our vendor site, Startek, come in and have a draw for free phones! Gasp. OMG. A whole free nokia 3360?!?!? And you have dozens of them? "Wow!" proclaimed the reps in the call centre. "I knew working here would get us free cell phone stuff. This is Awesome."
"Why yes!", they say. "And you can also get a discount on ATT Wireless service!!!"
"Ummm... I thought you guys only had service in the US.. This is Canada."
"Oh.. yeah.. guess you guys won't be able to activate these free phones then."

They didn't even think of that before they came all they way down here?? Got e...

I could see more so the importance of using the service you work for if you area a retail rep, and have actual face to face interaction with the customer. We're just names behind the 1-800 number you call at customer service. I know for instance a few people that give their families their employee lines and either get a regular line for themselves with whatever carrier works best for them. There's a few people here that commute quite a ways away from our call center location and have to use verizon because it's the only carrier that will work where they live in some of these rural communities with pop. 20 and a horse. (I'm sure we'll get there, we just aren't there now)

OR for instnance, for those people who have large families that ALL...

I currently use Verizon but also have a ATT old employee plan since it was 100% for free. Free phone ( crappy but free ) unlimited voice, text, internet, multimedia messages, but no LD, roaming, so it's basically a regional plan. But I don't go anywhere so it works out for me. But when we are forced to go to the new Cingular plan- I may not want it- it's not as good as a deal- you do get two lines for free ( one w/ 1000 mins, other w/ 500 mins ) w/ ATT you paid $9.99 for a 2nd line w/ only 300 mins.) and you pay for your equipment w/ a discount of 30%. I guess it's not bad- but the ATT plan is much better
