Yeah right! if you get the V400 and a V600 comes out; you'll have to wait until the end of your contract nears to be eligible for an upgrade, I work for Cingular and I deal with this issue everyday, besides the V400 is not that great. Maybe you should wait...

There will always be new phones with additional/better features coming in the future, especially when your talking about "later in the year". 6-12 months in this industry is a long time.
I have the V400, it's a great phone and I like it alot. Right now, I think it's the best Cingular phone and I am willing to stick with it for a year then see what's best available then.....but see that's just my opinion.
