I'm a newbie to this site and I am currently a Verizon Wireless customer with a Samsung Fascinate smartphone. I am thinking about switching over to AT&T and getting an Apple iphone4G but I am wanting to find out more about AT&T and their network and how it compares to Verizon I have been with Verizon since 2006 and before that I was with Sprint since 2001. Can of you fellas chime in and let me know the goods and bad please.

Dude, just take the 30 day trial and see if it works for you. AT&T works top notch where I live but that does not mean its going to work out the same where you live. Take the trial and see how it works for you ๐Ÿ™‚

AT&T has the biggest call drop rate for a reason, the Iphone 4 was recommended to be recalled onsumer Digest but never was. Why would you want that...but you have a 30 day trial.

iPhone. Duh! And s/he doesn't want to wait until next week... which is the time Verizon will be getting it.
I have that on very good authority.

Some big Verizon exec said nothing about Verizon getting the iPhone in a recent interview.

Now I know it's coming!

I have peered into the Hazy Mists of a Crystalline Sphere... I have translated the Dead Sea Scrolls into Latin, and applied the Bible Code to the translation... I have consulted the Dread Beast Yog-Suttoth...

And they have all insisted that Verizon will be getting the iPhone within the month.

Walked past a circle of purple-hooded monks on the way home from my evening crop-circle interpolation seminar.

They just kept chanting, "enohPi nozireV A, enohPi nozireV A, enohPi nozireV A" and casting sacrificially mutilated meerkat carcasses at the foot of a flaming effigy of Steve Jobs dressed in a pink sport coat wearing a blaze orange cravat...

I was feeling a bit famished by the time I walked past, and thankfully they were kind enough to offer me some kool-aid for the road. Nice guys.

Just can't get that scene out of my head. Do you think it means anything?

On January 24th, 2010 at 1:24PM Steve Jobs was eating lunch at a restaurant reportedly playing "Everything You Want", by Vertical Horizon, over the speakers.

0124 is the first four digits of an iPhone 4 IMEI.

01/24 = 0124
Vertical Horizon = Verizon

Coincidence? Perhaps, but consider this. If you rearrange the numbers of 0124 you get 04/12, or April 2012, which is when the supposed AT&T contract with Apple ends. Pretty self explanatory. Or maybe not!

On 04/12 of this year at 4:12 PM, Steve Jobs was quoted saying "No thank you" to a street vendor offering him a hot dog. A calculated allusion to dishonoring a contract, or a full stomach? Steve Jobs had not eaten breakfast or lunch that day.

Finally, w...

And it's too bad that Bell Atlantic GTE et al pulled "Verizon" out of their butt, taking the Latin word "Veritas," meaning "Truth," and combining it with the word "Horizon," forming "Verizon."

I kid you not.

If we take the Verizon method of naming, we can combine those two words into Froops, and then add wireless to the end.

So I just invented Froops Wireless.

Working on a commercial as we speak...

Now the Lament of Utnapishtim will have to be redone, and I'm going to have to recalculate the trajectory of Nabiru in order to get correct information from Marduk.

I have to point out that the Urim and Thummim say that the iPhone is coming to Verizon soon, but given the long term view offered by their originator, that could take over 2000 years to come to fruition.

Well, your good authority is a bit out of the circle. Verizon will be annoucing in NOV when they will be getting the iPhone, AND Apple won't be starting production on CDMA phones until DEC.

Your town might have good service. Your town might blow chunks.

As much as we'd all like to help you, this is a nationwide message board and coverage issues are a very local problem with AT&T (or anyone else). Your best resource is to find real live people in your area carrying around iPhones and ask them how the service is performing.

If you want help here, you're going to have to tell us what county you live in and hope someone here also lives nearby (and isn't trying to sell you something).

In general, the iphone isn't a great indicator of at&t's network quality. It consistently underperforms in the phone department compared to other at&t smart phones.

I'd say still give it a shot and see how it works for you.

When I was a road warrior, Muncie was a part of my territory which covered most of Southern Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana. My best experience with any cell provider was with Sprint. AT&T and T-Mobile were both the running joke. This was several years ago, so maybe things have changed.

Had some customers with Verizon that were pretty happy too.

AT&T has decent coverage in Muncie but if you travel north past Highway 28 you lose your 3g signal. AT&T doesn't have as much 3g coverage in Indiana because they are using the towers and equipment they received when they purchased Centennial which had no 3g.

it just really depends on where you use it and if at&t's network is stronger or weaker in that area, do you have any friends or coworkers that have at&t? ask them how it works for them...
