When AT&T Gets 4g

Copper Emeritus

I tried to Google this question but could not get an answer, and maybe it's because there is no answer yet.

I know Sprint is charging a premium ($10?) for 4G access. Can we assume that AT&T will do the same next year when they roll out 4G?

I might need to upgrade my daughter's phone here pretty soon, and if 4G is going to be the same price I'll wait until the new phones come out, but if there is going to be a bump, she will be staying with 3G.

I highly doubt anyone knows the answer to that question. Also, there is no guarantee that at&t will roll out LTE next year when there are several subsequent 3g network upgrades and buildouts that still need to be done. And if they do roll out 4g it will probably be in select markets before a national build out occurrs.

Kinda thought that might be the case. Even Sprint with their 4G in Kansas City does not cover the entire city, and up north where I live it does not work.

I think I will proceed as if 4G is decades in the future. Thanks.

By Sprints own admission, their 4g speed is 3-6 megs. AT&T 3g is currently 3.6 megs and they are in the process of updating the current 3g network to 7.2. In addition, once the Alltel deal closes, the 3g footprint will be dramatically enhanced from a geography standpoint.

LTE begins next year in limited areas with a full deployment in 2012.
