doing some research on prices and considering porting over to at&t.

if i get the $89.99 1400 mins family plan add an iphone and an unlocked, none at&t branded smartphone and family unlimited text how much am i looking at each month?

i know the math looks easy i was on the at&t website and the internet options are confusing. what is family data unlimited or data unlimited? i know the iphone has to get the $30 iphone data.

thank you!

Option A- at&t's systems automatically add smarthphone data to the unlocked smart phone.

179.99/month

Option B- at&t's systems don't catch the unlocked smartphone but you still want data.

159.99/month

Option C- You don't put data on the smartphone at all and at&t's systems don't catch it.

149.99/month

As to whether or not at&t's systems catch the unlocked smart phone, there is no reference list that you can refer to at this time.

What minutes are those plans using? unlimited for $120 family plan?

$120 + $30(Text) + no data = $150
$120 + $30(Text) + $10(Dumb-phone)= $160
$120 + $30(Text) + $30(Smartphone)= $180

...?

Because those numbers, on a family plan, don't include phone #2 - assuming your talking about unlimited minutes.

$120 + $30(Text) + no data = $150
$120 + $30(Text) + $10(Dumb-phone) + $10(Dumb-phone) = $170
$120 + $30(Text) + $30(Smartphone) + $30(Smartphone) = $200

For unlimited and 2 phones.

i didn't know you can share data when the iphone is involved. also, i thought the at&t system automatically adds a data plan to a smartphone regardless if its unlocked or not?

You can't share data. They have a $10 unlimited family data option on family plans if you already have family texting. But it is $10 per line...no sharing

Like I stated in my original post, if they recognize the unlocked phone as a smart phone the system will automatically add the $30 data plan. If they don't you can use $10 data. Or if they don't and you don't want data then you aren't bound to get data. Like I also stated, there is no list of phone models outside of at&t that are recognized as smart phones. All we can say is that if it runs windows mobile, android, bb OS, or symbian then we consider it a smart phone. The only think that doesn't make sense to me is the symbian phones that don't have a qwerty keyboard that we never consid...

$90 is 1400 minutes
$30 for unlimited texting
$30 per smart phone (2 iPhones = $60)
------
$150 + taxes for 2 iPhones, unlimited texting and 1400 shared minutes.

Smart Phone is a smart phone... AT&T iPhone, unlocked blackberry, Nexus One... doesn't matter. $30 per month per device.

Family Data Unlimited depends on Smart or Dumb phone. A dumb-phone is $15/month unlimited data... OR $10/month if purchased WITH unlimited texting.

So if you got one smart-phone and one non-smart phone, on a family plan with unlimited texting... you'd pay $40 for data (30 for iPhone, 10 for other).

If you got the same phones without unlimited texting for...

😲

That's a lot of money to carry around an iPhone.

I hope ATT's 3G coverage rocks in your area.

🤣 🤣
I am SOOOOOO Glad I did what I did when I did it! Amarantamin is dead on with this one. Sprint's $129.99/month will give you much more than what you are looking for here. Only one thing I'd have to say is get an Evo 4G instead of the iPhone for both lines! 🤣 🤣

Or any Android in general. More free apps of similar or better quality. iPhones just fill Stevie's pockets.

Anyways, I'd better leave before Blue comes in and fails miserably at debating this fact.

We're talking about deepsky"blue" in the face here right?

He's fulla psychobabble B.S.! Another true at&t fanboy at his best drinking the orange and blue Kool Aid.

I was simply answering the questions without trying to sell "the other guy".

And that's less about "the price of holding an iPhone" and more about "the price of using a Smartphone on AT&T or Verizon".

Droid, BB, Palm, iPhone, WM... all cost the same.

Completely understandable.

By the way, I'm sure most of us have seen the '30 days will make you smile' Sprint ad floating around this site? Am I the only one who is creeped out by the smiling guy? I don't know why, but he seems like the stuff of nightmares.

Also check with your employer to see if any discount plans are available. Or, if you are a membebr of a labor union, you can get a discount. Either check with your local or, if they do not know, go to http://www.unionplus.org/cell-phone-wireless/ att-wireless
