This article even mentions adding fiber optic to the 3G backhaul. And that ATT is going to spend $2b on the network this year. Personally, I'd like to see them spend more like $6-$8b!

Don't you think that you're asking a lot for someone who doesn't even want to pay them for a data plan? 🤣

Well...if 3G was worth !!$30/mo!! I'd pay it. But current 3G speeds aren't worth $30/mo!

if you compare the $30/month for unlimited usage to that of netbooks $60/month and that only gives you 5GB of data transfer per month it seems pretty cheap to me. Not to mention free at&t WIFI is included in the price. However from a Sales rep stand point I will offer netbooks over the Ipad simply cause I get paid better.

First off Im Firewalled ☹️
From what i read on the apple website the new 3G ipads would NOT be locked to ATT, granted yes their quadband GSM and Triband 3G but it states they'll be sold unlocked also. AND on top of that the data charge to use it would be sold by apple as well...As for the beefing up i think its a great smart idea.

Take some time to think about why. Yes it will delay them on delpoying LTE, HOWEVER it'll provide a good fall back tech should something go wrong with LTE. This happens to me from time to time today, i have no problem what so ever falling back on Edge if 3G in my area acts up(which it usually doesnt). I hope in the future the same idea applies and i think this is why they are doing that. Yes ATT may have drop...

The recent flurry of rumors predicting the end of AT&T's arrangement as exclusive provider of the Apple iPhone were apparently false. In fact, not only did Apple not announce the demise of exclusivity, it doubled down on its exclusive arrangement with AT&T by revealing AT&T as the sole provider of 3G wireless access for the upcoming iPad as well.
