I want the V600 so bad but - I'm going crazy trying to pick a phone and service, so here's my question for you/ all, I'd really appreciate some expert input:

I'm a not yet a sub for either cing or att right now - I'm thinking of going with the T616 thru cingular b/c I really want a hot phone SOON as well as the conveience of BT, AND ATT is not so great in Western NY right now. Then I'd just wait a while for the v600 for cingular to come out (I'll buy it out right). I would imagine that any tic tac problems encountered with the newer ATT version would be worked out by the time it hit Cing?

Any thoughts? Besides, do I want an ATT branded phone that could on Vodafone or Cingular in a year? How would a merger affect service, branding, cus...

really any changes due to this merger would take years to complete, personally I'd recommend AT&T Wireless, since I work for them. ;)

Merger should improve service, as you'll have towers from both companies, and bandwidth from both companies for highspeed. Branding will probably all switch to Cingular, customer support remains to be seen, can't be any worse than AT&T has been recently (30 min wait times on the phone?!?) It sounds like from reading Cingular's press release, that whichever company you're under prior the the completion of the merger, you'll come out the same as far as service and whatnot is concerned. I personally like Cingular, but I'd say if you don't mind waiting until late this year or early next year, and you can get a better deal on AT&T, you'd probably get to keep that deal when it switches to Cingular.

I would tend to agree.

Worst case, I'd guess you keep the ATTWS plan, and the (by then former) ATTWS network.

Unless we'd lose serious money, you'd probably have the old plan and the new network, with nifty new plans to encourage you to change.

Cingular typically lets customers keep old plans as long as they want; I've had customers come in with plans that predate Cingular itself. I suspect that the ATTWS plans would work the same way.
