They only stopped sales online, you have to go into a Apple or AT&T store now to buy one.

Some say the change is linked to a build up of fraud transactions online. now they wanna buyers in person.

How would that be any different ordering any other phone though? Confused

Maybe if they had done this years ago ATT wouldn't be in the trouble it is now.

Online doesn't require photo id, and in store there are limits on how many one person can buy. I could print out a million phony ID"s, but i can only buy so many by myself in a store. Online if I have stolen peoples information, or are using information fraudulently i can keep ordering as many as possible.

Then using your explanation why has ATT stopped selling just the iPhone online to New Yorkers? Let me guess they can't buy a BB Bold, TP2, etc?

iphone subsidy $300+
Bold subsidy $100

National demand for iphone is probably over 10x higher as well.

That was probably where the Fraud issues were arising from - NYC was the center of the whole insurance/warranty scam that happened awhile ago.

All's well, apparently. The 'why' 'tis still open to conjecture.
